Asian history book analysis

have been very influential in Asian history as a way of disseminating ideas to a large audience. Select and read one of the books listed in the syllabus approved reading list. You will write a 1050-1400 word (3-4 pages) book analysis requiring you to historically analyze the book. This is not a book report; do not write a synopsis of what the author wrote. I want you to pick one or two aspects of the book that you found significant and analyze why you believe it/they are important to your understanding of a particular aspect of Asian history. For your book analysis you must only use as your source citations information from the book that you chose from the assigned reading list and pertinent information from your text book by Hailstorck, Delparto, Neulander, Interpreting The Asian Past. Do not use any other print or electronic sources for the book analysis assignment.

Your papers will be formatted as follows:
1. A cover sheet with your name, my name, date, your class time, title of the assignment, a signed statement of the ODU Honor Code, and a word count of the paper. Papers must be stapled in the upper left hand corner. Please do not put papers in a folder or any other fancy cover.
2. Each page will be double-spaced, (do not double space twice between paragraphs), 1” margins, 12 point font, Times New Roman. The cover page, works cited page, bibliography page, and any charts/graphs/picture captions, etc. do not count in the word requirement. Papers with less than 700 words for the research paper and 1050 words for the book analysis will receive an automatic F.
3. Bibliography page of at least 3 sources for the research paper. Do not use all-purpose encyclopedias whether in print or electronic form, or class notes as sources for your papers.
4. You must use the Chicago Style method of documentation in all your written assignments. You must use endnotes for your source citations. The Chicago Style Documentation Guide can be found in Blackboard under “Course Documents,”

Brilliant ideas and analyses are not persuasive unless they are intelligently presented and argued; therefore, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and the coherence of your writing are important and will be graded. When you write your papers assume you are writing for a general audience with no prior knowledge about your subject material. Remember, you must define any foreign language terms in English.
Any unusual or uncommon fact, idea or concept that you obtain from a source must be documented. Since all of you are covering an area of history that is uncommon to you, most of your paraphrased information will need to be cited. However, commonly known facts, do not have to be documented. Direct quotations must always be documented and in quotation marks. Do not quote excessively! (Excessively means that more than 10% of the paper is quotes.) When in doubt cite your work! Using ideas or quotes without documentation is plagiarizing and grounds for an “F” for the course and possible academic sanction by the dean. The rule of thumb is that if you borrow a phrase of more than three words from a source put it in quotes and document it.
Here is the criteria I use to grade a paper:
I. CONTENT:
1. Is your thesis statement analytical and does it show originality of thought?
2. Strength/Quality of the thesis statement?
3. Do you cover the major issues relevant to your topic?
4. Do you use examples and specific details to support your thesis?
5. Does the paper include sufficient documentation to support your position?
6. Is the information discussed in enough detail?
7. Are your information and conclusions accurate?
8. Are your thesis & arguments well-developed in the body of the paper?

History of Art

-Write notes on multiple short readingsRead a number of short articles/ essays ( provided) and write about half a page on each.

Style Tour

Assignment should be at least 800 words. This week’s Style Guide will focus on Post Impressionism and two other distinct art movements/styles studied in Week 3, such as Symbolism, late nineteenth-century sculpture or architecture, Arts and Crafts movement, and Art Nouveau. Choose works of art produced during the historical period we are studying this week. Arrange them chronologically in your presentation along with your written work. Include the following identifying information (if available):
Title
ArtistDate the piece was created
Art movement and/or style
Media
In your own words, write a description and analysis of each work using visual language, with terms from the elements of art and principles of design table listed below (at least 3 of the most relevant art terms per each work of art). Work to explain the trademark attributes of each style and artist. Include discussion of context in each analysis, such as how the subject and style of the artwork expresses historical, cultural, and/or biographical information. Conclude how each artwork is similar and different in terms of style and philosophy.
You will also choose one of this week’s styles to explore more completely by creating an original work of art in that style and utilizing specific attributes of it. You may use the media of your choice (traditional media, such as pencil, paint, photography, and Photoshop, are all acceptable). Take care to implement elements of the style and subject you wrote about while creating your original artwork. Include a written description of your artwork explaining the style you worked in, the elements of it you implemented, and the process of how you went about doing so. Place your studio assignment and description at the end of your presentation.
At minimum, your Style Guide should be approximately 800 words.

Formal Description/Analysis and Cultural/Contextual Hints
After you choose a work of art ask yourself, Do I see line? If the answer is yes, explain the line that you see. Then ask yourself, Do I see color? If the answer is yes, explain exactly what color you see (work your way through all of the terms). If you don’t see a term, explain the lack of that element. For example, if there is a lack of movement in a sculpture, explain why that is significant to the philosophy of the style it is in.

HST 325 Immigration and Ethnicity Primary Source Approval

The requirements for your 4 sources are that they 1. Have to concern immigrants or immigration 2. Be from four different immigrant groups (i.e. you can’t have four sources all on Dutch immigrants) 3. One of the four sources has to be dated pre-1865. You are welcome and encouraged to have family history or the experiences of friends serve as one, or more of the sources. You can use as many sources as you feel necessary, but all outside sources you use must be approved. The Primary Source Approval will be in the form of an annotated bibliography. An example will be posted, but in essence, you must provide a complete and proper citation for your source and then provide a paragraph description of the source. The purpose of approval is twofold: 1. to make sure that you have your sources and 2. To make sure you have read through your sources. The grading for the Primary Source Approval breaks down as follows: first-time approval 40 points, and then a 10% deduction each for any source that needs to be replaced. So, if you need to replace two sources, it is a 20% deduction. The most common reason for source rejection is because the source is a secondary not a primary source; be sure to ask if you are unclear on the different. The other common reason for rejection is lack of a clearly pre-1865 source. For sources that need to be replaced, you must submit new sources until receiving final approval. Finally, in order to receive points for any aspect of the project, you first must have your primary sources approved. The points are only associated with on-time submissions, but even if you don’t submit your sources on time, you must still submit 4 sources in order to be eligible for the points for the Presentation and the Paper.

Neoliberalism and Globalization

Direction:
1. Choose a paradigm or school of thought or approach to the study of international relations (Neo-Liberalism in this case) and describe the approach. What are the key elements of this school of though? What common elements unite theorists writing in this tradition? What different variants of this approach exist? What are the core theoretical works in this tradition, and what makes them part of this tradition of inquiry? To what extent might this approach overlap with other approaches/paradigms?
2. Discuss the advantages of this approach. What is it good at explaining/describing/analyzing? What kind of questions does it lead people to ask? Does it offer predictive value? At this point, work in an example of a specific theory or hypothesis or issue that is exemplary of the approach you are discussing. Assess the utility of the specific example you provide and the school of thought in general.
3. Discuss the disadvantage of the approach. What does it ignore? What are major criticisms of the approach? Do you feel these criticisms are warranted? Do you have your own criticisms or rebuttals to these criticisms to offer? [This is an opportunity to provide your own appraisal and synthesis of the material, rather than citing someone else’s opinion.
4. Apply the approach in question to a contemporary issue (Globalization in this case) in international relations that is of interest of you. How would this approach to international relations explain the core issue, what would it predict for the future and what would it fail to see? Do you find the approach in question useful for understanding your chosen issue, or is it a school of thought that leads adherents down blind alleys (or even worse, policymakers into dangerous choices)?
*Please follow the instructions and format above strictly. Make sure the paper focuses on neoliberalism the IR paradigm, not the common usage of the term.
***Please use endnotes.
