Business Ethics

In this module we have explored the various ways that ethical decisions are experienced, mediated, and managed in the contemporary workplace and the society at large. A number of different policies and procedures are employed to attempt to manage ethical behaviour in organizations today. Given the expansive nature of management in contemporary society, business ethics places demands not only on our behaviour as employees and managers, but more broadly as citizens. These demands play an important role in creating the basis of moral selfhood, helping to shape people’s motivations and actions.

Business ethics and corporate social responsibility represent what Levy and Kaplan (2009) describe as a “contested terrain” where ethical and political issues are worked out. They form the space where concerns raised by civil society actors are responded to by business, both offering new possibilities for democratic problem-solving and enhanced corporate accountability; on the other hand, these new CSR initiatives may threaten to bring about a privatization of governance, enhancing corporate power vis-à-vis nation states and their citizens.

Examining the case that your group presented in December, please write a 3,000 word essay.

1) Describe the history of your case. What is the situation? What are the economic, social, and political factors at work?

2) Identify 2-3 key stakeholder groups that are involved in this case. What roles do they play? How are they affected? What particular roles does the campaign / corporation play? What motivated this initiative in the first place? What role do civic organizations and NGOs play?

3) Drawing from relevant ethical theory explored in the module, explore the nature of the ethical conflict or disagreement that is involved. What kinds of ethical demands does the case place on the people who are involved in it? Are there competing or conflicting moral imperatives to be considered? If so, is it possible to find a balance between them? What does this case show us about the management of business ethics today?

This is a research paper and, as such, should follow academic standards of writing. You may wish to use popular news items and other web-based resources in your research (i.e. company websites, CSR Reports; civil society organisations’ websites, etc.). You should, however, reference academic articles from management journals to analyze your case; these may be resources which you locate through your own independent research, .

The coursework should fulfil the following formal criteria:
• It should include Harvard style in-text references for all cited works, and a list of references at the end of the text,
• It should be spellchecked and grammar-checked.

Guideline Sheet for Personal System of Discipline Assignment
NOTE: This paper is REALLY important. You should revise it after it is graded and save it for your Student Teaching portfolio!
1. This 10 page paper with a bibliography of at least 8 sources (one of which may be the textbook) is to be written INDIVIDUALLY. It should be submitted to Turnitin no later than 1/13/16. See the instructions on how to do this on Blackboard.

2. 25% of the grade for this assignment will be based on its writing and APA format effectiveness. It must be error-free to earn the full 25 credits. Please be sure to include an introduction to the paper, transitions between each section, and a conclusion at the end of the paper. The introduction should include details about the class and students for whom the System of Discipline is being written (i.e. grade level, ICT class, typical behaviors, etc.). Proofread the paper for spelling, typographical and grammatical errors. We strongly advise that you consult the APA format guidelines in the course outline. Make use of the Academic Center, if at all possible.

3. 25% of the grade for this assignment will be based on a Preventive Discipline section. This section should discuss ways that you will prevent discipline problems from occurring in the classroom that it has created (all details about the classroom should be in the paper’s introduction). For instance, what kind of teacher will you be (i.e. democratic, pragmatic, assertive, lead, backbone or constructivist?), will your students be involved in determining the rules and consequences in the class, will there be parent involvement, will you set up the classroom structure in such a way that will be helpful, will you use See, Say, Do Teaching, will you have a First Day of School Action Plan, etc. You should choose a variety of theories and methods that will cause students to naturally behave well. This section should be no less than 3 pages and should cite research.

For instance, will you use encouragement or praise, escape mechanisms, body language, incentive systems, Preferred Activity Time, support buddies, class meetings, the 4 class virtues, student/parent contracts, etc. You should choose a variety of theories and methods that will acknowledge the positive behavior of the students, so that it will continue. This section should be no less than 3 pages and should cite research.

5. 25% of the grade for this assignment will be based on a Corrective Discipline section. This section should discuss ways that you will manage misbehavior when it occurs. For instance, will you use punishment, negative consequences, logical consequences, a discipline hierarchy, self-diagnostic referrals, efficient help, group concern, omission training, moving in or out, etc. You should choose a variety of theories and methods that will eliminate the negative behavior of the students, so that it will continue. This section should be no less than 3 pages and should cite research.
Note: It is HUGELY important that you use theory-specific terminology in all of the sections of the paper, and that appropriate sources are cited. Over-using the textbook will result in significant point deduction. Bold all terms (e.g., Preferred Activity Time).

Sexual Relationships between Students and Educators: The Ethical Issues

For the references the first part of the paper has 5 so after you read the first part maybe you can use some of the same references. but make sure to use ‘Koocher, G. P., & Keith-Spiegel, P. (2008). Ethics in psychology and the mental health professions: Standards and cases. Oxford: Oxford University Press.” as one of your sources.
Case Study Vignette
Case Study Vignette After an affair between Gary Goferit, Ph.D., and Paula had ended, Jettison filed charges against Goferit for sexual harassment and exploitation. She also contacted the local news-papers, which ran the story. She was joined by several other students who claimed that they too had experienced harassment and exploitation by Goferit. Ultimately, Dr. Goferit lost his wife and his job the contemporary popular press relishes stories like this, and even sophisticated academic publications, such as the Chronicle of Higher Education, feature them regularly. We collected dozens of articles from the popular press, several involving mental health and social science educators, from which to adapt our cases. Students also have greater vulnerability than they may appreciate. At the time, some may see their relationship with professors as exciting, possibly even putting them on the fast rungs up the career ladder, only to later find themselves discarded and frozen out.

So for this assignment I will attach the first part of the paper which is the
1. Title Page
2. Case Study Analysis Abstract
3. Detailed Case Study Vignette Description
4. The Ethical Conflict
What I need for you to do is read the case study Vignette along with the attachment that I have provided. For elements 5 and 6, you will list and define each principle and standard in an organized fashion. You will then emphasize (highlight, bold, or summarize) which principle and standard could be at question in your case study vignette. For element 7, you will make a statement discussing the cultural and social considerations in your case. All cases have considerations of this kind, but they may be less obvious in some case studies. You may also choose to create a hypothetical cultural or social consideration (e.g., What if a language barrier were present in your case study vignette?) for your case if you do not think it has one. For element 9 you will list the eight-step ethical decision-making model and apply the eight-step ethical decision-making model to analyze your case study vignette’s ethical conflict. You will develop an ethical strategy to address the ethical issues you identified in Milestone Three and which you could use to resolve your case’s ethical conflict. After working with the eight-step decision-making model, you will identify an alternative decision-making model to analyze your case study vignette’s ethical conflict. Besides discussing ethical decision-making models to resolve your case study vignette’s ethical conflict, you will also look at additional considerations for the ethical conflict. Address whether or not dual relationships or multiple-role relationships were present in your case study. If they are present, detail their importance in problem solving a dilemma. If they are not present, provide a statement that shows you understand what these standards are and their importance in all psychology disciplines. Expand upon element 7 and explain how you considered diversity issues, social concerns, multicultural considerations, and equality in your problem solving of an ethics dilemma.

Discussion 1
Final Research Project Topic
Prepare: As you prepare to write your response to this discussion assignment, it will be in your best interest to review the following resources:
• Develop a Research Topic
• Incorporate Sources into Your Research Paper
And in the Ashford University Library, search tutorials titled Picking Your Topic IS Research and Database Search Tips.

Reflect: When considering a research topic, consider an interesting topic that is worth further research. For instance, having a strong opinion on a specific topic may deter you from thinking more critically, and therefore the research might end up being one-sided. It is a good idea to pick a topic in which you can provide a good argument for both sides of the societal issue.
Write: The first step in the research process is selecting a topic that is both interesting and manageable. For this discussion:
• Review the Final Research Project instructions in Week Five, and identify two potential research topics. The two topics are prayer in schools and privacy rights. Keep in mind that you will choose just one for the Week Three Annotated Bibliography assignment and the Final Research Project.
• Describe methods to use in identifying and narrowing your research paper topic.
• Examine and summarize information from at least two scholarly sources for one of the topics that may prove valuable as you seek to defend your claims regarding your chosen topic.
• Address why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.
• Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any references.
• Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length.
Discussion 2
Ethics and Moral Development
Prepare: In preparing for this discussion, you should first review the Week Two required resources that focus on ethics and morals. You will examine your own development of ethical and moral responsibilities.
Reflect: Take a deeper look at your own life and determine which experiences have inspired ethical and moral reasoning. Were there any huge influences in this process?
Write: For this discussion you will
• Explain what it means to be ethical as it relates to personal, academic, and professional growth.
• Provide at least one ethical dilemma you have encountered and describe how the issue was resolved.
• Describe how your general education courses influenced your ethical values.
• Explain why a college-educated person might have different duties to society than someone not as educated.
• Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any references.
• Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length.
each discussion needs one referance each.
