Approach Document and Taxonomy Template Draft 1

Approach Document and Taxonomy Template Draft 1
Before starting this assignment, view the library tutorials available in this week’s activity (see Week 7 Activity 1). Contact the library if you have any questions relative to the content of the videos. Ensure that the following points are covered relative to your search strategy:
• How you will conceptualize a topic to suggest search strategies;
• Identify at least ten search terms to use;
• Preferred search engines and repositories
• How you will adjust the search strategy if you are coming up with too many or too few hits; and
• How you will you determine whether or not an article gets included in the final matrix (taxonomy).
Part A: Develop an Approach Document to Search for Gaps in the Literature
Prepare an Approach Document for determining gaps in the literature. Similar to the Approach Documents you developed in Weeks Two and Four, the format for the assignment is equivalent to a recipe in a cookbook. A good recipe is one that anyone can read and replicate what you have done. List numerically, in a step-by-step manner, the actions you will take to search, access, analyze, evaluate and synthesize scholarly literature to identify knowledge gaps. A companion flow chart or PowerPoint, or any combination thereof may help you to visualize the process. Full sentences are not necessary. Word count should not exceed 700 words.
Part B: Implement an Approach to Search for Gaps in the Literature
Follow the steps in your Approach Document and begin your search for articles that you will use to find gaps in the literature. Your goal is to analyze and evaluate articles such that you end up with 5 articles that represent the start of a collection of articles from which information will be synthesized to find gaps in the literature. Analyze each article selected relative to the criteria listed in the Taxonomy template. Evaluate whether the results of your analysis will be useful for determining gaps across a full body of articles. If the article is deemed by you to be useful, enter the information about the article into the Taxonomy Template. Each article represents a row of information in the template. Enter an article on a new row and entire the required information about the article into the columns across the row. Refer to the Dissertation Field Guide, Table 9-3, for an example of a completed taxonomy template.
Deliverables
• Approach document to include a numeric listing, in a step-by-step manner, the actions you will take to search, access, analyze, evaluate and synthesize scholarly literature to identify knowledge gaps;
• A Taxonomy Template with a minimum of 5 articles where information about each article is deconstructed and entered into a row and columns in the template.
• A one-paragraph discussion of potential gaps that can be identified once another 5 to 10 qualified articles are entered into the template and a synthesis of the information take place.

Your task is to evaluate the outdoor play environment to determine if it supports physical growth for those in early and middle childhood in a safe and secure way.

Select three pieces of equipment that allow children to engage in different types of play.

First, for each piece of equipment:

Indicate the specific types of gross motor skills for each age group that are developed by using it. (NOTE: Do not confuse terms for early and middle childhood skills.)
Determine what, if any, fine motor skills are being developed for each age group. (Again, do not confuse early and middle childhood skills.)
Specify which senses are being stimulated.
Name the type of play for which the child uses it.
Next, consider what materials were used to make the piece of equipment and what is on the ground under it (e.g., sand, grass, or concrete). Is it safe or not? Explain.
In your essay: a) name each piece of equipment; b) indicate the type of play (it can be more than one type) in which children may engage; c) specify the type of gross and fine motor skills it enhances; d) name the type of materials (e.g., steel or plastic) used in its construction; and e) evaluate whether or not it is safe (and be sure to justify your reasons).

In addition to developing a 2-3 page paper based on the above instructions, include an accompanying slide presentation consisting of 2-3 slides in PowerPoint or comparable format. The presentation will include a summary of your written work and detail your recommendations on each piece of equipment, the type of play in which children may engage; the type of gross and fine motor skills the prescribed equipment enhances, and the name the type of materials (e.g., steel or plastic) used in its construction.
