Pause to Reflect: Educational Planning

How have any of the readings, writings, or postings of your colleagues helped you to think about your own educational plans? Have there been any clues to new directions, new questions, or options that have emerged for you to date? That is, have you noticed any connections between this exploration of happiness in American history and your own assumptions about your education and the degree you are pursuing?

You are not expected to bare your soul. (There is an important distinction between what you want to keep private and what your want to share.) In about 150 words, please describe your current thinking about any connections you have thus far found between this study and your overall educational planning process.

Completing this short writing assignment by the middle of Week 6 will allow others to read and comment on what you have offered.

Topic: application for medical school

In 300 words or less, state why you want to become a physician and what you can bring to the world of medical health in today’s multicultural society. If you are applying as a transfer student, please also state why you wish to transfer from your present institution and more specifically, why you wish to transfer to Ross University School of Medicine.

My passion and interest in medicine is deeply rooted in my childhood. Before I could even attain 10 years of age, my father was diagnosed with a severe cancer and later succumbed to it. I was then too young to understand everything, but I somehow held onto the feeling that I could have helped prevent my father’s death. A few years later, my mother decided to move with me and my two other sisters to the US. While attending to college I had opportunity to offer my services to the senior citizens undergoing different stages of Alzheimer’s disease. During this volunteer experience I realized that I had the ability to make such a difference. Later on, while attending to Rutgers I spent my summers participating in a premedical scholars program called NERA at NJ Medical School. I was delighted to be in a medical environment especially sharing time with medical students and professors which helped me gain a comprehensive view of medicine.

My desire for a career in medicine has grown stronger since I have been able to take higher level science classes and volunteer at a local hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have been able to realize through my personal experiences that is only through formal education, precisely medical education that I will be able to truly help. I would like to be part of the solution not just the observer to those experiencing the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Including other cancer patients like my father was, and the elderly Alzheimer’s patients I was serving at the facility. Becoming a physician will fulfill my personal and career goals. My multicultural background and different life experiences have helped me become a person that adapts easily to different environments and cultural backgrounds something that I believe will help me serve better as a future doctor.

Performance indicators will be provided for these criteria on Learning@Griffith

5. Formal academic conventions for presentation, written experssion and referencing using APA style
You have to design a 10 week english teaching program for the group of 25 punjabi community people residing in Australia who are intermediate in level of learning. Basically you have to design a one lesson plan for a week. That means in total you have to design 10 lesson plan to teach these Punjabi students. You have to just cover grammar only. It means you have to design 10 grammar lesson plan. One lesson plan for each week for the class of 25 students and the time should be 2 hrs with a lunch break. But you can also set time according to your lesson plan. You can use direct method of teaching that is English to English as their level is intermediate. You can use a grammar book as a resource, as you have to mention the resource to justify your teaching program. I am also sending you the sample of curriculum design program. They are 5 in total and you can use any one of the sample according to your choice. But you have to mainly focus on the following points while framing this curriculum design project given below
1) Aim
2) Objectives
3) Methodology( what methods you are going to use, example play cards, translation etc)
4) Evaluation ( how you are going to conduct evaluation, example fill ups, true or false etc
While framing the lesson plan you have to be very careful about
1) What kind of teaching methods you are going to use
2) You have to make appropriate questions to keep the learners engaged
3) You have to keep on modifying your teaching methodology
4) Contextual matters weigh a lot.
After designing the 10 lesson plan you have write an essay to justify your lesson plans or curriculum design project. You have to focus on the competence and performance of the students. You have to discuss age issues and socio cultural issue. The essay would be divided in following section given below
1) Introduction
2) Class Profile
3) Need Analysis
4) Situational analysis
5) Theories underpinning the curriculum design
6) Conclusion
The assignment should have a general goal. The topic sentence of the essay should be very clear. All the relevant theories can be discussed together with the previous discussion but you can also have a separate section for it but you have to relate it to the previous discussion. I am also attaching the relevant articles which you can use. For referencing you have to use APA style and it has to be really a correct referencing.

Learning and Assessment Position Paper

Topic: Learning and Assessment Position Paper
SUBJECT AREA – SECONDARY ENGLISH.
AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM
(Western Australia where applicable)
UK spelling
== Note from the Unit Co-ordinator ==
In your journals you explored readings and research relating to the teaching of secondary English. Many of you were able to apply the ideas suggested in the readings and research to your teaching; a number of you were able to identify challenges, contradictions, and opportunities that exist in the secondary English teaching “space”. Your readings, in other words, have helped you to develop a broad awareness of many issues that secondary English teachers frequently encounter and address.
Your previous (and concurrent) studies also provide a rich and complementary wealth of ideas and information that have informed your understandings about secondary English education and teaching. So, what is it that strikes you about teaching secondary school English?
Remember the position paper asks exactly for that – a position. This suggests that there needs to be a reason or basis for the position.
Here is an example of a line of thinking that might inform a paper’s structure:
a) Australian Curriculum is big on the notion of entitlement
b) this means all students should be able to engage in meaningful learning
c) in secondary English, this means that students can …
d) research and data suggests this isn’t happening for all students, and here’s why (explain)
e) which gives rise to this challenge/issue/opportunity
f) here’s what the research suggests could address this challenge/issue/opportunity
This is NOT an essay plan. You will need to develop this further, of course, to develop a plan. What is shown above is just an overview to help you to get thinking; and to be aware that your paper needs to follow a logical process of argument. (You would, for instance, present your thesis at the start of your paper, whereas in the process example above, the thesis (or position) is hinted at point e).)
As I have stated elsewhere, your position paper needs to be a formally produced piece of writing that displays all elements of scholarly writing. Please do not confuse this with verbose, highly derivative and unnecessarily complex writing. Clear writing reflects clear thinking, and it is the clarity of your thinking (your “position”) that is being assessed in the position paper. This includes your written expression, so please check and proofread your work very carefully before handing it in for marking.
== From the Unit Guide ==
Assessment two: due the week commencing 20 October 2014.
Learning Area Position Paper (2500 words)
Reflect on your learning in the course and prepare a Position Paper summarising the nature, goals, and value of your chosen Learning Area, and setting out your developing philosophy. Consider the nature of the discipline, the theories and philosophies that have shaped it, how current curricula frame the subject, and your own provisional position on the goals, purposes, content, and strategies entailed in the Learning Area.
