Analyzing Managerial Decisions: Setting Tuition and Financial Aid
The Board of Ursinus College in Pennsylvania raised its tuition and fees 17.6% to $23,460 in 2000. It subsequently received 200 more applications than the year before. The president of the college surmised that “applicants had apparently concluded that if the college costs more, it must be better.” Other colleges that raised tuition to match rival colleges in recent years include Notre Dame, Bryn Mawr College, Rice University, and the University of Richmond. They also experienced an increase in applications. In contrast, North Carolina Wesleyan College lowered their tuition and fees about 10 years ago by 22% and attracted fewer students. The college president concluded that “ it didn’t work out the way it had been hoped. People don’t want cheap.”
You are hired as a consultant to a President of a liberal arts college in the East. You are asked to evaluate a recommendation by the college’s Admissions Director, Susan Hansen, to increase tuition and to reduce financial aid to students. Susan argues that the data from competing colleges suggest that the demand curves for colleges slope upward- the quantity demanded increases with price. Susan projects that the increase in tuition and reduction in financial aid will solve the school’s financial problems. Last year, the college enrolled 400 new students who each paid an effective tuition of $15,000 (after financial aid), totaling $6,000,000. She projects that with the increased demand from charging an effective tuition $25,000, the college will be able to enroll 600 new students (of equal or better quality), totaling $15,000,000. Evaluate Susan’s analysis and recommendation.

The questions that need to be answered.

Unrealistic Elements in Reed’s The C Above the C Above High C: Ishmael Reed’s The C Above the C Above High C is full of unrealistic elements that are a bit confusing, especially when one is reading the play. Pick one scene or two related scenes that makes use of unrealistic elements, and create an argument about how the use of that element affect the scene. Why do you think Reed made the choice to write the scene or scenes using unrealistic elements instead of writing it in a more realistic way? Do unrealistic elements open up specific possibilities that would not be available in a more realistic play?

Design

Design
Order Instructions:
As a new engineer working at a secret space laboratory, you (to be completed individually) have been assigned the task of providing a conceptual study (preliminary design) for a wheel nut and accompanying locking mechanism that is to be fitted to the next generation mars rover.
Due to the existing rover wheel and spindle design, only a single wheel nut must retain the wheel to the spindle. The spindle is free to rotate and dowel pins transfer torque to the wheels, hence the wheel nut only needs to secure the wheel to the spindle with a specified preload force. An important requirement for the wheel nut design is it must feature a self-locking mechanism so the wheel nut will not loosen from the spindle. The locking device must be a mechanical lock and not reliant on friction (e.g. Nylock nuts) because the nut must be quickly, easily and repeatedly removed from the spindle.
The final selected conceptual design must be ready for detailed design, where the overall concept is viable as a successful product with major materials and manufacturing techniques selected and off-the-shelf components are identified where applicable.
The deliverable is a complete concept feasibility study that includes:
1. Product definition and feasibility of initial concepts, provide the following (6 marks):
? Product Design Specification of the problem, which clearly states the problem constraints and criteria
? Illustrations of at least three (3) different viable concepts – labelling main design features
? Evaluation of the three (3) different concepts and selection of one concept
2. For the selected concept in Part 1, provide the following (4 marks):
? A more detailed and accurate illustration of the chosen concept – this diagram should label most features that define the concept (i.e. there should be a label detailing each design feature and justifying why it exists).
? Briefly describe the manufacturing techniques that will be employed
Note
I. The written section of Part 1 and Part 2 should not exceed 3 pages and 2 pages respectively. This a maximum of 5 WRITTEN pages – this does NOT include concept illustrations.
II. Your task: Design of the wheel nut and locking system, NOT surrounding parts (e.g. wheel or spindle), however, the nut must lock on the spindle so you may need to sketch design features on the spindle.

Application: The Ethics and Legalities of Medication Error Disclosure
American writer Nikki Giovanni once said: “Mistakes are a fact of life. It is the response to the error that counts” (Goodreads, 2012). Whenever you make an error when writing a prescription, you must consider the ethical and legal implications of your error—no matter how seemingly insignificant it might be. You may fear the possible consequences and feel pressured not to disclose the error. Regardless, you need to consider the potential implications of non-disclosure. How you respond to the prescription error will affect you, the patient, and the health care facility where you practice. In this Assignment, you examine ethical and legal implications of disclosure and nondisclosure of personal error.
Consider the following scenario:
You are working as an advanced practice nurse at a community health clinic. You make an error when prescribing a drug to a patient. You do not think the patient would know that you made the error, and it certainly was not intentional.
To prepare:
• Consider the ethical implications of disclosure and nondisclosure.
• Research federal and state laws for advanced practice nurses. Reflect on the legal implications of disclosure and nondisclosure for you and the health clinic.
• Consider what you would do as the advanced practice nurse in this scenario including whether or not you would disclose your error.
• Review the Institute for Safe Medication Practices website in the Learning Resources. Consider the process of writing prescriptions. Think about strategies to avoid medication errors.
To complete:
Write a 3- to -4 page paper that addresses the following:
• Explain the ethical and legal implications of disclosure and nondisclosure. Be sure to reference laws specific to your state. My state is Texas
• Describe what you would do as the advanced practice nurse in this scenario including whether or not you would disclose your error. Provide your rationale.
• Explain the process of writing prescriptions including strategies to minimize medication errors.
