business analysis tools

• Select and apply three different time series forecasting methods for your data e.g. moving average, exponential smoothing, Holt’s method or any other suitable time series forecasting method e.g. Brown’s method
• For each method, validate the results by finding the error (MSE and MAD) between the actual data and the forecast data for the same time period. THE METHODS OUR GROUP HAS SELECTED ARE MOVING AVARGE, SINGLE EXPONENTIAL SMOOTHING AND DOUBLE EXPONENTIAL SMOOTHING|BROWNS METHOD. I JUST NEED A LITTLE RESEARCH ABOUT THOSE METHODS WITH SOME REFERENCES AND EXAMPLES TO SHOW IN GROUP MEETING AND THEN THEY WILL WRITE WHOLE ASSIGNMENT.

Business Information system assignment

Aim:
In the first assignment you created a SwimLane diagram to show the As-Is business processes for Zucchero Pty. Ltd
and an Excel spreadsheet with graphs to show their statistics for 2014. Your role was to gather information, analyse
the information and portray this information in a business report for the General Manager (Ms Franka Spencer) to help
her understand the company’s current processes and recent statistics.
In this assignment (assignment two), you will take on a more strategic role for Zucchero. You are expected to
demonstrate skills in analysing and forecasting growth or decline in an Excel spreadsheet created by you for this
purpose. You will also be expected to demonstrate research and written skills in responding to specific queries raised
by the General Manager and finally, you will be asked to make recommendations combining an analysis of your
spreadsheet and your research.
NOTE: you do not need to have successfully completed assignment one in order to undertake assignment two.
Like all units you study, incomplete assessments often result in a steeper learning curve for later assessments.
Therefore any requests for a solution to assignment one is not necessary and will not be granted.
ZUCCHERO PTY LTD – Fictitious case study scenario
Background
Recap: Zucchero Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1959 in Grafton, New South Wales by Luigi Dolce, a former Cane Sugar
farmer. He moved away from farming when he started a mill and refinery to process the sugar from local cane sugar
farmers. His business flourished over the years and has grown into a multi-million dollar company with a strong
penetration in the Australian market, and a developing export business. Not only does Zucchero produce a large range
of sugar products such as raw sugar, white sugar, brown sugar, icing sugar etc, but also golden syrup and treacle.
The operational information required to run the company, such as sales trends, distributor information, promotional
information and so on, are not always documented well with some key information known only to a few senior
employees. Although the company has a website it only includes basic information such as contact details and product
types so it is unclear whether this website generates any new business. In fact, Zucchero uses very little marketing and
the new General Manager, Franka Spencer, believes more can be done in this area.
In order to maintain a competitive edge and see Zucchero flourish, Franka needs to make strategic decisions based on
future projections. She has asked you to provide the following information in the form of a business report (with
academic references):
– responses to queries which investigates contemporary issues in technology and business (refer Task B)
– three (3) forecast graphs created in Microsoft Excel (one must be a Pivot chart/graph) that show future
projections and growth/loss for 2015 and 2016 (refer Task A)

Operations Management

This assignment requires you to develop an individual case study dealing with aspects of operations management based upon your own personal experience assuming to be working for an IT reseller company (software solutions).

You need to apply key concepts of operations management to your experience and discuss the associated implications. In so doing you will need to draw on operations, systems and project management concepts.

You can choose any relevant organisation that you have sufficient first-hand knowledge of and one that lends itself to being discussed in this way. (This may be a family business, an organisation you have worked at or a college or university you have studied/are studying at).

You MUST following case study format and contain the following sections:

• Executive Summary: you should summarise your entire case study briefly (hopefully on no more than one page of A4 paper).

• Case study organisation: you should give the name of the featured organisation and the reasons for you choosing it

• Introduction: you should provide some background information on the chosen case study organisation and the aspects of operations management that are relevant

• Literature Review: you should conduct a review of relevant academic literature and provide a critique of the current issues/concepts that are relevant to your case study. You must include Operations Management Concepts, Project Management, Information Technology and Systems, Role of Operations Manager, and Project Management.

• An application of theory to practice: you need to compare actual practice at your case study organisation with the key academic thinking established in the review of literature. It may point out similarities and differences, agreements and contradictions, and suggest explanations for these relationships. The focus of this section needs to be on: (1) Operations management concept (2) a critical evaluation of project management to business situations of your case study organisation (3) the role of information management and technology on the role of operations management in the case organisation.

• Conclusions and Recommendations: you should summarise the main findings and their implications and provide recommendations that directly relate to this analysis.

• Implications for practice: you should critically evaluate how your recommendations are likely to impact on the role of Operations Manager including the ‘soft skills’ required by the Operations Manager to implement your recommendations.

• References: you should use the Harvard referencing convention.

Advertising & My Consumption

To be honest, I have tried so many times to control my consumption desire after watching advertising. I succeeded for several times, but failed for most times. For example, I placed an order just now on A&F Web site. I saw the promotion of up to 60% off discount, and I decided to buy just a little things. It turned out I bought more than $200 stuff at the end. That is what advertising has done to me! It creates an interest at the time I see it, than it enlarges my demand by more temptations.
Advertising is not only about convincing, it can also change consumer’s perception. I used to prefer Starbucks over Dunkin Donuts. After more Dunkin ads appeared in my sight, I now like to shop at Dunkin Donuts.
Ads from non-profit organization also work on me. I saw ASPCA a lot, then I decided to be a guardian of those lovely animals. I now donate every month than I used to do once a year.
All after all, advertising is supposed to work this way: to ignite consumer’s desire, and to make people feel they need more than they actually need. However, individuals are different from each other. Some may have strong minds to resist those ads at all. Hope I was one of those!
