Money and the Prices in the Long Run and Open Economies

Order instructions

Purpose of Assignment

The primary focus of this assignment is to understand the impact of Fiscal and Monetary Policy on GDP.

Week 3 will help students develop an understanding of what money is, what forms money takes, how the banking system helps create money, and how the Federal Reserve influences the quantity of money. Note – there are limits to how much control over the bank system the Federal Reserve can force. The banks are the major source of money creation in a boom period, because of lending, and during a recession the Federal Reserve can’t force them to make loans, hence the effective money supply can shrink even while the Federal Reserve is engaging in significant expansionary policies. The past decade shows us there is almost no direct relationship between these money supply quantity and inflation. This partially explains why we saw effectively zero inflation during the largest period of Federal Reserve Expansionary Monetary Policy in the history of the economy, during the past decade or so.The IS/LM model clearly shows this is not the case.  At a minimum three additional factors must be accounted for: 1) productivity growth, 2) population growth, and 3) Agg. Demand/Agg. Supply imbalances. Students will review the basic concepts macroeconomists use to study open economies and will address why a nation’s net exports must equal its net capital outflow.  Students will focus on the effect of Fical and Monetary policy on GDP.

Assignment Steps

Resources: National Bureau of Economic Research

Develop a 1,500 to 2,000-word economic outlook forecast that includes the following:

  • Provide a five year history of the “Big Three” macro economic variables (GDP Growth, Unemployment Rate, and Inflation Rate).  and compare to *a* forecast for the next five years.
  • Discuss how  fiscal and monetary policies can influence economic growth, unemployment, and inflation.
  • Based on your above findings discuss whether the US fiscal or monetary policies should be changed. If you feel they should be changed provide your reasoning; if you feel they should not be changed provide your reasoning.
  • What do you feel is the most significant macro economic problem currently facing the united States? Provide your reasoning for your conclusion.

Argumentative Research Paper

Project: Argumentative Research Paper
You lead a multi-disciplinary team that deals with compliance issues for GoodHealth, Inc., a large healthcare provider that owns four hospitals. Your team did some investigating, including internal audits and confidential interviews, and they found the following:
(1) the provider seems to have imposed budgetary constraints that they knew or should have known would prevent facilities from providing adequate care;
(2) care that is not of acceptable quality is being provided;
(3) there are medical coding errors going five years back that will likely total millions of dollars;
(4) medical errors are not being consistently reported; and,
(5) physician peer review for medical errors is not taking place in a consistent or timely manner.
Your team has concluded that it is in the best interest of GoodHealth, Inc. to self-report to the OIG. The team must prepare a paper and presentation for the CEO. The CEO will submit the paper to the Board of Directors. Be creative. How should this be approached?
Start with these articles on Corporate Responsibility and Healthcare:
o https://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/docs/complianceguidance/Corporate%20Responsibility%20and%20Health%20Care%20Quality%206-29-07.pdf
o https://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/docs/complianceguidance/040203corpresprsceguide.pdf
Here are some suggestions for the team to consider.
o What sort of penalties can be imposed by the OIG to address (1) through (5) above?
o Have the Directors breached any legal duty?
o Should the organization self-report?
Your paper will be 4 to 6 pages in length, single spacedusing a Times New Roman 12-point font.
Do not include an abstract or title page.
Your paper will be an argumentative research paper.

Child support

New relationships and technologies are challenging the way we have traditionally looked at child support obligations. Historically, legal obligations to pay child support were based on either the legal status of marriage or the biological relationship established by paternity. Today, same sex relationships and non-traditional methods of reproduction have raised new issues about whether biological and legal relationships are enough or essential to establish support obligations.

Consider these situations:

1.Should a biological father who had sexual intercourse with the child’s mother once and never had any relationship with the mother or child have a legal obligation to support the child?

2.Should a same sex partner who has no biological relationship with the child or legal relationship with the child or its mother but had a long term emotional relationship with both have a legal obligation to support the child when the couple splits up?

Traditional views of support would say yes to the first instance but no to the second.

1. What about the situation where one same-sex partner serves as the egg donor but the other partner carries the resulting embryo to term? If the couple splits up and the egg donor parent retains custody, what, if anything is the obligation of the other mother?

2.What about the obligations when conception is accomplished in vitro and the resulting embryo is implanted in the mother against the wishes of the father after the couple splits up? Support obligation to dad?

Considering the above and your reading about family law to date as well as outside resources, in a 500 word essay, answer the following question:

1. Should child support obligations be based on the biological, legal and/or social relationship between an adult and child?

Be sure to answer the question presented above and use the bulleted examples to illustrate and support your answer to the question.P(5.u)

Lab: Galaxy Rotation

Purpose:
In this lab we will study the rotational velocities of galaxies by examining stellar data and making graphs of velocity vs. distance from center of galaxies.

Procedure:
1. Graph the following data tables. You may put them all on one graph if you color code them so you can see them individually. Make the graph large enough for them all to fit! Examine all of the data before settling on a scale. Kpc distance is the distance OUT from the center of the galaxy (which is 0.0 Kpc). RV is the rotational velocity, in Km/sec. For comparison, our galaxy is about 16 Kpc in radius (visiblelight)

2. Google each galaxy and determine its type (spiral, elliptical, irregular) and use a best-fit line or arithmetic average to determine its average RV (rotational velocity). Graph the Milky Way data last. (6 graphs @ 3 points each = 18 points)

7-2 Final Project Submission: White Paper

7-2 Final Project Submission: White Paper
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
 Analyze the impacts of various healthcare departments and their interrelationships on the revenue cycle
 Compare third-party payer policies through analysis of reimbursement guidelines for achieving timely and maximum reimbursements
 Analyze organizational strategies for negotiating healthcare contracts with managed care organizations
 Critique legal and ethical standards and policies in healthcare coding and billing for ensuring compliance with rules and regulations
 Evaluate the use of reimbursement data for its purpose in case and utilization management and healthcare quality improvement as well as its impact on
pay for performance incentives
Prompt
You are now a supervisor within the patient financial services (PFS) department of a healthcare system. It has been assigned to you to write a white paper to
educate other department managers about reimbursement. This includes how each specific department impacts reimbursement for services, which in turn
impacts the healthcare organization as a whole. The healthcare system may include hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and more. For now, your boss has
asked you to develop a draft of this paper for the hospital personnel only; in the future, there may be the potential to expand this for other facilities.
In order to complete the white paper, you will need to choose a hospital. You can choose one that you are familiar with or create an imaginary one. Hospitals
vary in size, location, and focus. Becker’s Hospital Review has an excellent list of things to know about the hospital industry. Once you have determined the
hospital, you will need to think about the way a patient visit works at the hospital you chose so you can review the processes and departments involved. There
are several ways to accomplish this. Choose one of the following:
 If you have been a patient in a hospital or if you know someone who has, you can use that experience as the basis for your responses.
 Conduct research through articles or get information from professional organizations.
Below is an example of how to begin framing your analysis.
A patient comes in through the emergency department. In this case, the patient would be triaged and seen in the emergency department. Think about what
happens in an emergency area. The patient could be asked to change into a hospital gown (think about the costs of the gown and other supplies provided). If the
patient is displaying signs of vomiting, plastic bags will be provided and possibly antinausea medication. Lab work and possibly x-rays would be done. The patient
could be sent to surgery, sent home, or admitted as an inpatient. If he or she is admitted as an inpatient, meals will be provided and more tests will be ordered
by the physician—again, more costs and charges for the patient bill. Throughout the course, you will be gathering additional information through your readings
and supplemental materials to help you write your white paper.
When drafting this white paper, bear in mind that portions of your audience may have no healthcare reimbursement experience, while others may have been
given only a brief overview of reimbursement. The goal of this guide is to provide your readers with a thorough understanding of the importance of their
departments and thus their impact on reimbursement. Be respectful of individual positions and give equal consideration to patient care and the business aspects
of healthcare. Consider written communication skills, visual aids, and the feasibility to translate this written guide into verbal training.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

As your Final Project for Financial and Performance Management, you will prepare and submit a consultancy report to the management of Anthony’s

Orchard, the company studied throughout this module. The company is considering expanding its product line to include apple juice. This

expansion would require a significant investment in a piece of equipment known as an apple press. Your Final Project submission analyses this

decision, and provides to company management a recommendation based on your analysis.

The consultancy report should contain five distinct sections, plus an executive summary, that in total equate to 5,000 words (+/- 10%) in

length. Necessary Appendices and a References section should also be included. Throughout this module, you will develop various sections of this

report through your work on Individual Assignments (IAs). During Unit 6, you will compile these sections and make any refinements based on

feedback received from your Faculty Member. You will also develop the additional sections required to complete and submit the Final Project.

Contents:

Your consultancy report should include the following sections:

Executive summary
Section 1: Financial Analysis
Section 2: Analysis of the Investment
Section 3: Developing a Balanced Scorecard
Section 4: Assessing Benchmarking Efforts
Section 5: Summary, Recommendations and Conclusion
Executive Summary (New)

In this section, you introduce the nature and purpose of your study. Summarise your study and its objectives, and briefly state your

recommendations.

Section 1: Financial Analysis (Overview of the given case study organisation and its current financial situation) (Unit 2)

In this section, refine the assignment you completed in Unit 2, an analysis of the current financial health of the company. Using data provided,

assess materials and labor costs, the income statement, the cash flow statement and each of the business units in Anthony’s Orchard.

Additionally, conduct a cost-volume-profit (C-V-P) analysis of the current year’s financials.

Section 2: Analysis of the Investment (Future capital investment opportunities and strategic financial plan) (Unit 3)

In this section, refine the assignment you completed in Unit 3, an analysis of the proposed investment in an apple press. Consider the impact

this investment has on the company’s stated revenue objectives, and draft projected financial statements that provide a realistic assessment of

expected revenues and costs.

Section 3: Developing a Balanced Scorecard (Balanced Scorecard and performance indicators) (Unit 4)

In this section, refine the assignment you completed in Unit 4, an analysis and projection of various performance measures for Anthony’s

Orchard. Develop a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) for the company to measure financial, customer, internal process and learning/growth performance.

Add to this your opinion of any effects on organisational performance that may emerge as a result of expanding the product line.

Section 4: Assessing Benchmarking Efforts (Gap analysis and benchmarking, including quality assurance techniques (Unit 5)
In this section, refine the assignment you completed in Unit 5, an analysis of various quality measures for Anthony’s Orchard. Conduct a gap

analysis and provide recommendations for the development of benchmarking efforts.

Section 5: Summary, Recommendations and Conclusion (New)

In this section, present your recommendations in more detail than you did in Section 1. Include your final recommendation to the management of

Anthony’s Orchard regarding the expansion of the product line to include apple juice and the requisite purchase of the apple press. Present your

reasoning for your position, and include any subsidiary recommendations you may wish to make (such as additional performance or quality efforts

suggested) in support of your primary recommendation. Reiterate any assumptions you made.

Appendices (New)

Include any supporting documentation you feel is required in this section. This may include organisational data, historical information,

additional information on tools or any other information that would be pertinent in support of your proposed solution.

References (Units 2-5)

of Atrill, P., & E. McLaney, (2011) Accounting and Finance for Non-Specialists, 7th edition, Harlow: FT/Prentice Hall.
STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL POSITION

An accountant prepared a statement of financial position for a business. In this statement, the equity of the owner was shown next to the

liabilities. This confused the owner, who argued: ‘My equity is my major asset and so should be shown as an asset on the statement of financial

position’. How would you explain this misunderstanding to the owner?
Assets are the not equity, liabilities are the outsiders or third party’s claim into the business, and below it is equity, representing the

owner’s claim into the enterprise.
The statement of financial position shows how much a business is worth. Do you agree with this statement? Explain the reasons for your response.
I agree, it shows the business worth as at the specified dates. Total assets represents the total business financial position.
Compute the missing amount in the accounting equation for each business. Name of business Assets Liabilities Equity
Hudson Gift and Cards 37,000 35,000

At the year end, the total assets of a business were £189,000 and the total liabilities were £126,000. During the year, the owner withdrew

£10,000 and introduced a further £18,000 in equity. The business began the year with total assets £180,000 and total liabilities of £112,000.

What is the profit (loss) for the year? £8,000 (profit) £13,000 (loss) £8,000 (loss) £13,000 (profit)

A company that produces a single product provides the following information: budgeted sales of 40,000 units, margin of safety 25% of budgeted

sales, total fixed costs £240,000. What is the contribution per unit of the company’s product?
x_be=75% of 40000=30000 units=(fixed cost)/(contribution margin)=240000/CM,CM=$8
A business makes 2,000 units of a particular product. It spent £24,000 on material and it paid its operatives £40,000. Fixed costs of running

the factory were £50,000. The salesforce were also paid £18,000 and the head office costs were £100,000. In order to break even the selling

price per unit will have to be:
total variable cost=total direct labour+total direct material
=24000+40000
=$64000
variable unit cost= (total variable cost)/(units produced)=$64000/(2000 units)=$32 per unit
Variable cost per unit= 12+20= $32
