Increased  government spending to fight recessions

Major Debates over Macroeconomic Policy

Purpose of Assignment

This week requires the student to address six unresolved issues in macroeconomics, each of which is central to current political debates. Students are required to use information and tools that they have accumulated in their study of the text and evaluate both sides of those issues, determine which side they can support for each issue, and defend their positions.

Write a 1,000-word analysis total on the following topics:

  • * Active monetary and fiscal policy
  • * Increased  government spending to fight recessions

Evaluate both the advocates’ position and the critics’ position.

Determine which position you support and defend your position.

Cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources not including your textbook.

Format consistent with APA guidelines.

what is a nonparametric test?

Choose one of the following three questions and post your answer:

1.  In your own words, what is a nonparametric test?  What is a parametric test (Section 13-2)?
2.  In your own words, identify an advantage of using rank correlation instead of linear correlation (Section 13-6).
3.  In your own words, what is the difference between a nonparametric test and a distribution-free test (Section 13-7)?

Please respond to my discussion question by clicking on the Reply button after this section.  When you reply to another student’s comments, click on Reply after their comments.

EXAMPLE:
Hello!  I will take number 1.  A nonparametric test does not require that the samples are coming from a normal distribution, while a parametric test does.

Sleep and Sleep Disorders

Sleep and Sleep Disorders

There’s a dangerous new epidemic sweeping this country: excessive daytime sleepiness. According to a new National Sleep Foundation survey, an alarming one-third of American adults scored at levels of sleepiness known to be hazardous. Six percent scored at severe levels of sleepiness. Consider the implications of these findings: Although we trivialize sleep problems, sleep-related accidents result in thousands of deaths each year and billions of dollars in medical costs and lost productivity. The Exxon Valdez tanker disaster and the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident were both caused by operator fatigue. This exercise explores the causes of chronic sleep loss and examines exciting new discoveries in the field of sleep research.

1. In the past century, we have reduced our average sleep time by 20 percent. Going back 20 years, identify societal changes and changes in individual lifestyles that encourage wakefulness and discourage sleep.

2. Many more women than men suffer from chronic sleep loss. What social, psychological, and physiological factors might account for this gender difference?

3. Ninety-five percent of individuals that suffer from sleep disorders are never diagnosed or treated for their disorder. What factors might explain why sleep disorders often go untreated and undiagnosed?

4. Read through the information on the sleep Web sites (use links provided at the bottom of the page at http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.), and select 10 to 15 of the facts about sleep that you consider most valuable. This information should be common knowledge; in fact, if it were made public, it might reduce our culture’s sleep crisis. Title your list “Facts Everyone Should Know About Sleep and Sleep Disorders.”

CRITERIA:
1. Societal changes are discussed accurately
2. Gender is discussed accurately
3. Misdiagnsosis is discussed accurately
4. 10-15 facts about sleep is discussed accurately

milestone is a two-page paper structured as follows: First, it provides an overview consisting of a brief description of the chosen company, your chosen product
or service, and annual sales. Second, it describes three macroeconomic variables in the United States that impact the supply and demand of your chosen product
or service. Third, using graphs in Excel, it interprets the trends of the three selected macroeconomic variables for the past three years. Fourth, based on the
trends of the three macroeconomic variables, it assesses how the trends will impact the supply and demand of your chosen product or service. Include all
calculations in an Excel file.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Overview: Provide an overview consisting of a brief description of the chosen company, your chosen product or service, and annual sales.
II. Macroeconomic Variables
For this section, you will utilize macroeconomic variables such as GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, and so on to relate trends in data to the supply
and demand of your product or service. Include all calculations in an Excel file.
a) Select three macroeconomic variables in the United States that impact the supply and demand of your chosen product or service. Justify your
selections.
b) Interpret the trends of the three selected macroeconomic variables for the past three years. Be sure to include gathered data.
c) Based on the trends of the three macroeconomic variables, assess how they will impact the supply and demand of your chosen product or
service.

define, or otherwise explain, the terms "policy outputs" and "policy outcomes."

9 essay quality questions need to answer, no Plagiarism:

(TCO A) A hospital can be owned and operated either publicly (by a government) or privately (by either a for-profit entity or a not-for-profit entity). Administering the hospital may be quite different depending on whether it is publicly owned or privately owned. Please explain ways in which the hospital may respond differently to “The Market” (that is, market forces) if it is publicly held as compared to privately held.

(TCO B) Stabilization should be one of the goals of an effective public policy. Explain at least three of the actions that the federal government can take in times of economic crisis to try to achieve stabilization.

(TCO C) Statutes enacted by legislatures, whether the Congress of the United States or at a state level, often are vague. Hence, the policy mandates given to public administrators via the legislation are vague. This also shifts much of the policy making to public administrators. Explain the advantages to the public of the public administrators, rather than the elected representatives, making policy via rules and regulations.

(TCO D) Explain why it is critical for the effectiveness of a public policy or program initiative to be measured. Please also define, or otherwise explain, the terms “policy outputs” and “policy outcomes.”

(TCO E) As a public administrator seeking funding to achieve policy objectives, one tool that you may be able to consider is the use of dedicated tax revenue. That action would require the authorization of the legislative branch and would need to be signed into law. Yet you could initiate the request that legislation (or an ordinance at a local level) be passed that provides that specific tax revenue would only be used for purposes of your program and/or department. Provide one specific example at the federal level of such a tax. Provide an example in general of such a tax at a local level. What is one advantage of having a dedicated source of revenue at the local level?

(TCO F) Define the term “public-private partnership.” Explain at least two of the challenges facing the public sector and how this structure may help to alleviate those challenges.

(TCO G) As a conservation measure, your state has recently passed a law lowering the maximum speed limit in the state to 55 miles per hour. As a public administrator in charge of the implementation, describe the steps that you feel should be taken so that the policy can be placed in effect in a cost-effective manner.

(TCO H) A problem with government, some might say, is that once an agency is established to implement a new public policy, that entity may continue to exist year-after-year without evaluation as to its continuing relevance. A “sunset provision” when an agency is created may help to overcome this potential issue. Please define or otherwise explain the term “sunset provision” in the context of the creation of an agency. Also, explain how such a provision may help the public.

Discuss psychological factors that influence whether individuals start to smoke, drink alcohol, or use drugs

Choose one of the following topics:

Smoking tobacco Alcohol abuse Drug abuse

Write a 525- to 700-word paper that addresses your chosen topic. Explain how dishonest workers and discouraged workers affect employment statistics

Review Lesson 7

Directions: Answer each of the questions below.

1. How does an increase in unemployment negatively affect our government?

2. When a business finds it necessary to layoff some employees (due to slowing sales), what positive effects might this have for the business?

3. Mr. Smith was disabled in a car accident in 1995 and has not been able to work since. Is Mr. Smith included in the unemployment statistics? Why or why not?

4. Explain how dishonest workers and discouraged workers affect employment statistics.

5. For the following situations, identify the type of unemployment each represents.

a. Because of the decline in the U.S. birth rate, baby clothes manufacturers are laying off workers.
b. Bill decided to relocate to Texas. He quit his present job and found a new job in Texas three weeks later.
c. As interest rates continue to rise, the sale of new homes decreases. This has caused an increase of unemployed construction workers.
d. As the fall harvest ends, agriculture unemployment increases.
e. Janet worked in the drive-up window of a bank. The bank has installed an automated teller machine and has closed the drive-up window. Janet’s job no longer exists, so she has to start looking for another job.
f. The state of Missouri has enacted a law stating that no one under the age of 21 can work in an establishment that sells liquor. Mark, an 18-year-old, was working as a waiter in a restaurant that sells alcoholic beverages. He can no longer work at the restaurant.

Relying on today's technology

Relying on today’s technology
As indicated in our materials, physical security is comprised of “structural security,” “electronic security systems,” and “the human element.”

However, we seem to be relying more and more on hot new technology to meet our security needs.

Write a two-page narrative outlining your perspectives on the question: “are we placing too much emphasis on advanced and emerging technologies to

address assets protection needs at the expense of lower-tech/lower-cost solutions?” In your paper, please include examples, references (with proper

citation) and facts/figures to back up your position.

What is the role of health care reform in shifting the focus from a disease-oriented health care system toward one of wellness and prevention?

What is the role of health care reform in shifting the focus from a disease-oriented health care system toward one of wellness and prevention?

The role of the health care reform in shifting the focus to a health care system that promotes wellness and prevention rather than a disease oriented one is to stop diseases before they start, and for all Americans to strive to be healthy and fit. It is so critical for Americans to be healthy and vital in order to be productive and innovative for our nation’s future. The National Prevention Strategy is part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and is intended to help in the shift of the nation’s health-care system to one that is focused on prevention and wellness (Benjamin, 2011). The shift to this preventative focus of health care can lead to cost savings but also to saving and improving lives.

How does nursing fit into this shift?

Nursing fits into this shift of the medical care system that is focused on wellness and prevention in a variety of ways. Nurses will ultimately be tasked with much of the education and reinforcement of preventative and wellness healthcare. Through the use of evidence-based recommendations, nurses will need to encourage patients to receive preventative services. Nurses working in public health will be able to educate and inspire more people to engage in healthy lifestyles in order to live longer lives (The Role, 2017). There are three types of prevention that nurses will use on a regular basis depending on the environment in which they work, these include primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention (The Role, 2017).
