End-of-life ethical issues

1.Quantitative Research Designs

In order to find the best information on a topic, not only should you develop a question and search for resources, but you should also know how to analyze the value of the resources that you identify. There are different ways to evaluate resources, such as using the hierarchy of evidence, which you explored in Week 4 of this course. Another way to evaluate resources is to consider the appropriateness of the research design. Understanding how research designs contribute to the quality of a study is essential for being able to analyze resources when conducting a literature review or locating evidence for practice.

In this Discussion, you consider the different research designs and evaluate how these designs have been used to research a specific topic. You also consider strategies for selecting an appropriate research design.

To prepare:

· Review the information in the course text on quantitative research designs. Focus on the information on, “Guidelines for Critiquing Research Designs in Quantitative Studies”.

· Select a topic from the list below and search the Walden Library to find two different quantitative research studies addressing that issue:

o Caregiver stress

o Anxiety in children

o Sleep apnea

o Depression in college freshmen

o Rural health care issues

o Post-traumatic stress syndrome

o Traumatic brain injury in veterans

o Health effects of environmental contaminants

o Bipolar disorder

o End-of-life ethical issues

o Alternative medicine

· For each of the sources that you select, identify the type of quantitative research design used, and evaluate whether it is the most appropriate approach to the research.

· Consider the ramifications of choosing an inappropriate design for a research study.

Identify the risks and benefits of extracting or using one type of nonrenewable and one type of renewable energy resource from that ecosystem, or in areas near that ecosystem

Write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper on natural resources and energy. Include the following: •Choose a specific ecosystem, such as a forest, grassland, or a marine or freshwater aquatic ecosystem. •Identify associated with agriculture. •Identify and discuss the effects a growing human population may have on that ecosystem’s resources, including loss or harm to populations of wild species. •Discuss one management practice for sustainability and conservation of natural resources in that ecosystem. •Identify the risks and benefits of extracting or using one type of nonrenewable and one type of renewable energy resource from that ecosystem, or in areas near that ecosystem. •Assess management practices for sustainability and conservation of natural resources and energy.

Include two outside references.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

NOTE……Paper must be written as per plan in attachment!!!

Accounting

Accounting
Anthony, R., Hawkins, D., Merchant, K.A. (2011) Accounting: Texts and Cases (13th edition). McGraw-Hill/Irwin. Chapter 23
Chapter 23 focuses our attention on the control process of management. In particular, this week requires that we examine how a cost accounting system can

help us design appropriate compensation systems.
Describe, by specific example, potential features of a compensation system. In particular, at least one what feature a compensation system should have, or

at least one feature it should not have, and how the presence or absence of these features might affect the performance of the firm.

Should the police have the ability to selectively enforce only those laws that the public wants to have enforced? In other words, should the police ignore offenses when the law in question is not a popular one?

Government, including the criminal justice system, is supposed to be answerable to the people. However, there are times when the “law” and the “will of the people” may conflict. This may be due to evolving social preferences that lawmakers have not yet caught up to, or it might also be due to different communities having different standards. Resolving the conflict between “doing what the law requires” and “serving the will of the people” is often not a black-and-white decision.

This week’s discussion will examine this conflict from several angles.

  • Should the police have the ability to selectively enforce only those laws that the public wants to have enforced? In other words, should the police ignore offenses when the law in question is not a popular one?
  • Should the police or prosecutor have the power to decide against charging a particular offender if it is clear that the local population does not want that person to be prosecuted? Provide a real or imaginary example that would illustrate this dilemma and justify your choice.
  • Should the police enforce laws differently from one community to the next, if those communities express differing standards? If you agree that the community should have influence or even oversight over the local police, how can this be achieved? Using South University Online Library or the Internet, research about police agencies that utilize a community policing strategy.
  • These dilemmas can affect all levels of law enforcement, but sheriffs in particular have to wrestle with it. Analyze why sheriffs should be more concerned with the “will of the people” when that will seems to be in conflict with the letter of the law?

Legal and Ethical conduct

As emphasized in this week’s media presentation, all nurses need to be familiar with the laws and regulations that govern their practice: their state’s Nurse Practice Act, ANA’s Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, specialty group standards of practice, etc. In addition, basic ethical principles guide nurses’ decision-making process every day. ANA’s Code of Ethics and ANA’s Social Policy Statement are two important documents that outline nurses’ ethical responsibilities to their patients, themselves, and their profession. This said, there is a dilemma: The laws are not always compatible with the ethical positions nurses sometimes take. This week’s Discussion focuses on such a dilemma.
To prepare:
Review this week’s Learning Resources, focusing on the information in the media presentation about the relationship between the law and ethics.
Consider the ethical responsibility of nurses in ensuring patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice.
Read the following scenario:

Lena is a community health care nurse who works exclusively with HIV-positive and AIDS patients. As a part of her job, she evaluates new cases and reviews confidential information about these patients. In the course of one of these reviews, Lena learns that her sister’s boyfriend has tested HIV positive. Lena would like to protect her sister from harm and begins to consider how her sister can find out about her boyfriend’s health status.
Consult at least two resources to help you establish Lena’s legal and ethical position. These resources might include your state’s Nurse Practice Act, the ANA’s Code of Ethics, ANA’s Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and internal or external standards of care.
Consider what action you would take if you were Lena and why.
Determine whether the law and the ANA’s standards support or conflict with that action.

Write a description of the actions you would take in this situation, and why. Justify these actions by referencing appropriate laws, ethical standards, and professional guidelines.

role that culture plays in development according to Vygotsky.

After you have completed the Reading, and watched the videos on early childhood development (on page 122 of your Digital Book), and attachment (on page 135), post your initial response to the following questions and statements

1. Using the video on early childhood development, explain what stage the children in the video would be in according to Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development. Utilizing Piaget’s Theory, explore the specific components that pertain to the stage of development of the children in the video. Be sure to include information related to the role culture plays in development according to Piaget. Assess whether any of the specifics that apply to this stage of development were present in the video.

2. Using the same early childhood development video, illustrate how Vygotsky would explain the development of the children in the video. Be certain to include specific aspects of Vygotsky’s theory (for example: scaffolding and zone of proximal development) in your answer. Summarize the role that culture plays in development according to Vygotsky.

3. After viewing the video on attachment, determine how theorists, such as Bowlby and Erikson, would explain the scenarios. In your answer, specify how different aspects of attachment were present in the videos (for example: separation anxiety, attachment quality, temperament). Evaluate the role that culture plays regarding attachment.

  • Answer the following questions:
    • What is the difference between a basic practice, best practice, and best fit?
    • What is the role of “fit” in the case study, and how does it compare to how “fit” is achieved at your organization?
    • Would the approach used in the case study apply to your organization? Why or why not?
    • What would you recommend as a best fit solution for your organization?

Read through the Workforce Management and Workforce Development Scoring Guide prior to submitting this assignment to ensure you have met all of the expectations.

Do you think that behavior is due to environmental factors (nurture) or innate tendencies (nature)?

Do you think that behavior is due to environmental factors (nurture) or innate tendencies (nature)? Provide an example of a behavioral characteristic and explain how it may have developed through the influence of experience, heredity, or both.

Next, considering Darwin’s principle of natural selection, give two examples of structural or behavioral characteristics that might confer selective advantages to human beings over other animals.
