As in any industry, any time a senior employee in a leadership position retires, resigns, or leaves the organization for any other reason, the

consequences could be severe In health care, a senior leader has spent years fulfilling the duties of the position, and during that time have acquired

an extensive knowledge on the area they oversee and the goal of the organization. If that person leaves the organization abruptly the position must be

backfilled by someone who will have to learn the ins and outs of the position over time, resulting in anything but a seamless transition in leadership.

The purpose of a succession plan is to create appropriate training for employees that will prepare them to step into these positions and perform the

leadership responsibilities with minimal disruption to the organization. This will ensure stability and efficiency during times of stress.
Consider the following scenario: You have been promoted to a new position and will be relocating. Your last responsibility in your current position is

to train your replacement.
Develop a Succession Plan for the employee who will replace you. Consider using your current job as the basis for this assignment or any job that you

can discuss competently and with detail.
Analyze primary functions of the role (the job description).
Consider the following questions as you are developing your plan:
What is the organization’s purpose and vision for this position?
What are the key gaps, or areas of improvement, in the position?
Are there any specific skills that are required for this position?
Does the position have responsibilities that can only be accomplished by someone possessing a specific set of skills?
Are there strengths identified in your SWOT analysis that can be used to prepare the new employee?
How will you implement your plan?
Which mentoring strategies will you use in your Succession Plan to inspire your replacement to promote the organization’s mission and vision?
Write a 700-word summary of your Succession Plan and address the questions above in your summary.
Provide in-text citations and references for all sources cited; format according to APA guidelines.

How does an increase in unemployment negatively affect our government?

Review Lesson 7

Directions: Answer each of the questions below.

1. How does an increase in unemployment negatively affect our government?

2. When a business finds it necessary to layoff some employees (due to slowing sales), what positive effects might this have for the business?

3. Mr. Smith was disabled in a car accident in 1995 and has not been able to work since. Is Mr. Smith included in the unemployment statistics? Why or why not?

4. Explain how dishonest workers and discouraged workers affect employment statistics.

5. For the following situations, identify the type of unemployment each represents.

a. Because of the decline in the U.S. birth rate, baby clothes manufacturers are laying off workers.
b. Bill decided to relocate to Texas. He quit his present job and found a new job in Texas three weeks later.
c. As interest rates continue to rise, the sale of new homes decreases. This has caused an increase of unemployed construction workers.
d. As the fall harvest ends, agriculture unemployment increases.
e. Janet worked in the drive-up window of a bank. The bank has installed an automated teller machine and has closed the drive-up window. Janet’s job no longer exists, so she has to start looking for another job.

Do you believe that humans can harvest forest resources in an environmentally friendly way? Or, should national forests be left in their natural state in which resources are not used to benefit humans?

Both conservation and preservation activities are currently part of all national forest

management programs. The Bridger Teton video discusses one controversy between those

who want to harvest the resources of one section of the forest in an environmentally friendly

way (conservation) and others who believe it should be left in its original state

(preservation).

Resource: Ch. 2 Bridger Teton Video Learning Resource (VLR)

Due Date: Day 5 [Individual forum]

View the Ch. 2 Bridger Teton VLR located under the Week Two Materials section of your

aXcess page.

Post a 200- to 300-word response to the following: Provide a brief summary

differentiating conservation and preservation. Do you believe that humans can harvest

forest resources in an environmentally friendly way? Or, should national forests be left in

their natural state in which resources are not used to benefit humans? To which side are

you inclined? Provide specific examples from the Bridger Teton video as you defend your

Critique the design of an evaluation by describing what evaluability means and why proper evaluability is so fundamental to the success of any specific project

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, be certain to have read all the required resources for this week.

Evaluation research is a unique, applicable form of scientific inquiry. While the conceptualizations of ordinary research methods form the foundation upon which evaluation research rests, there are some nuances found in evaluation that are unique. One such nuance centers on questions of whether a particular policy or program can be evaluated.

Critique the design of an evaluation by describing what evaluability means and why proper evaluability is so fundamental to the success of any specific project. For examples on strategies for how to determine evaluability, you should make use of the Lipsey, Petrie, Weisburd, and Gottfredson article and this week’s required reading from the Rossi, Lipsey, and Freeman text. You may support your position with both scholarly and non-scholarly credible sources.

Creative writing

Creative writing
Requirements: each entry must be at least 125 words.

1. Consider A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. In her narrative, Rowlandson provides an account of the time she spent in captivity. The narrative documents the abduction of Rowlandson and the death of some of her family members, and clearly one of the purposes of the work is to describe this terrible time in her life. However, the narrative also serves to describe the Native American culture. Rowlandson makes several observations about the similarities/differences in cultural traditions between the Native Americans and the European settlers. Discuss one similarity and one difference that Rowlandson describes. What is her attitude toward these differences?

2.Fight for Freedom. Consider Douglass’s speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” What logic does he use to make his point? His speech contains a lot of emotion, including anger. His anger is certainly justified, but does his anger take away from the effectiveness from his argument? Describe a time when you argued a position you were angry about. Were you able to make an effective argument? Why or why not?

Nutrition Controversies

Because BIOLOGY is an essential element of our everyday lives, we see and hear news reports on a variety of issues that relate to it almost every day. Your assignment is to research and review one article or report on the specified topic or issue related to Biology indicated. Additional information on writing a journal (or newspaper) review or summary can be found in the attachments to these instructions (Journal Review[1].docx and WRITING A SUMMARY[1].docx). Your report should be organized as follows:

Title of the article or report pertaining to the specific topic for the week
Author of article
Source of article or report (This includes the name of periodical, newspaper, or other media resource. Include the “URL” for online resources. “Wikipedia,” other encyclopedias, and textbooks are not approved sources. The source must be valid, as I will check the source)
Date of article (this is absolutely required)
“Your summary” in “your own” 200 words or less discussing and/or explaining what the article is about.
Make sure you read the attached files on “Writing a Journal Review” and “Writing Summaries.”
The summary should not express your personal views about the topic or author, but should provide an objective summary of the facts presented in the article; therefore, do not use first or second person in your summary. In this summary you are to
discuss (consider as many important elements related to the issue as you can)
explain (tell about something that is complex in a way that makes it clear)
Since the summary should be “in your own words,” avoid directly quoting material from the article, unless absolutely necessary to characterize what the article is about. Also, be mindful of plagiarism.
I have tried to align assignments and discussion topics with the chapters covered in the textbook. So an ideal place to share personal commentary on an article that you have read would be the Discussion forums.

The article submitted for the week must be on the specified biology topic or issue listed for the week. The article should come from a source that provides “new” information; therefore, it should not simply define the topic or provide background information that has long been established. See “Biology News Sources” under Important Course Information on the HOME PAGE for some websites that offer current biology news articles. The publication date of the article MUST be CURRENT or within 90 days of the assignment due date. Weekly Assignments/Reports will be evaluated based upon the degree of completion and correctness.
.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT must be on Nutrition Controversies:

What are some potential problems with stock options as a form of compensation?

Homework Set #5: Chapter 12

Due Week 10 and worth 100 points

Directions: Answer the following questions on a separate document. Explain how you reached the answer or show your work if a mathematical calculation is needed, or both. Submit your assignment using the assignment link above.

In your own words, complete the Mini-Case on Page 562 of your textbook.

Suppose you decide (as did Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg) to start a company. Your product is a software platform that integrates a wide range of media devices, including laptop computers, desktop computers, digital video recorders, and cell phones. Your initial market is the student body at your university. Once you have established your company and set up procedures for operating it, you plan to expand to other colleges in the area and eventually to go nationwide. At some point, hopefully sooner rather than later, you plan to go public with an IPO and then to buy a yacht and take off for the South Pacific to indulge in your passion for underwater photography. With these issues in mind, you need to answer for yourself, and potential investors, the following questions.

  • What is an agency relationship? When you first begin operations, assuming you are the only employee and only your money is invested in the business, would any agency conflicts exist? Explain your answer
  • If you expanded and hired additional people to help you, might that give rise to agency problems?
  • Suppose you need additional capital to expand and you sell some stock to outside investors. If you maintain enough stock to control the company, what type of agency conflict might occur?
  • Suppose your company raises funds from outside lenders. What type of agency costs might occur? How might lenders mitigate the agency costs?
  • Suppose your company is very successful and you cash out most of your stock and turn the company over to an elected board of directors. Neither you nor any other stockholders own a controlling interest (this is the situation at most public companies). List six potential managerial behaviors that can harm a firm’s value.
  • What is corporate governance? List five corporate governance provisions that are internal to a firm and are under its control.
  • What characteristics of the board of directors usually lead to effective corporate governance?
  • List three provisions in the corporate charter that affect takeovers.
  • Briefly describe the use of stock options in a compensation plan. What are some potential problems with stock options as a form of compensation?
  • What is block ownership? How does it affect corporate governance?
  • Briefly explain how regulatory agencies and legal systems affect corporate governance

Post-traumatic stress syndrome

1.Quantitative Research Designs

In order to find the best information on a topic, not only should you develop a question and search for resources, but you should also know how to analyze the value of the resources that you identify. There are different ways to evaluate resources, such as using the hierarchy of evidence, which you explored in Week 4 of this course. Another way to evaluate resources is to consider the appropriateness of the research design. Understanding how research designs contribute to the quality of a study is essential for being able to analyze resources when conducting a literature review or locating evidence for practice.

In this Discussion, you consider the different research designs and evaluate how these designs have been used to research a specific topic. You also consider strategies for selecting an appropriate research design.

To prepare:

· Review the information in the course text on quantitative research designs. Focus on the information on, “Guidelines for Critiquing Research Designs in Quantitative Studies”.

· Select a topic from the list below and search the Walden Library to find two different quantitative research studies addressing that issue:

o Caregiver stress

o Anxiety in children

o Sleep apnea

o Depression in college freshmen

o Rural health care issues

o Post-traumatic stress syndrome

o Traumatic brain injury in veterans

o Health effects of environmental contaminants

o Bipolar disorder

o End-of-life ethical issues

o Alternative medicine

· For each of the sources that you select, identify the type of quantitative research design used, and evaluate whether it is the most appropriate approach to the research.

· Consider the ramifications of choosing an inappropriate design for a research study.
