System leadership

The primary focus of scheduling should be to improve patient flow, prevent primary care providers from working overtime, and reduce overcrowding.

TO relate to addressing the problem area through the use of various strategies and techniques – e.g., would the most optimal way to address the problem be through team collaboration, designing a business plan, addressing throughput issues, conducting a gap analysis, and/or utilizing financial techniques in addressing the needed change effort. Once the strategies are identified, the next step of this project will entail designing an implementation plan to address the problem area and the DNP leader’s role in the change process. The final step of the project will be to identify three measurable outcomes to assess the success of the implementation plan.

Describe how the problem area impacts the three system levels within the organizational structure—microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem. (1 page)

At what system level will change be most required to address the problem area—microsystem, mesosystem, or macrosystem level?

Will the problem be addressed by focusing on only one of the system levels?
Will all system levels be included when addressing the problem area?

Identify and describe the financial techniques or strategies that will be used to address the problem area. There is not correct answer, rather you are to use a systems thinking approach in order to address the problem area as thoroughly and efficiently as possible. (2 pages)

Identify the most optimal strategy in addressing the problem area such as conducting a throughput analysis and identifying the various bottlenecks within the system, SWOT analysis to discover the range of staffing matrices used by competing hospitals, using a strategic process and identifying key stakeholders when creating a new culture of safety.

Will other strategies need to be used to address the problem area or will one strategy suffice at this point in time?

Will strategies cross over all three system levels?

Describe the implementation plan to address the problem area. (2 pages)
Who needs to be involved in creating change; list the key stakeholders that need to be involved in this project.

Document the steps of the process as it currently exists using a flow chart; perform a gap analysis, and design the steps of the new process that will address the gaps and improve the problem area.

Design a timeline for completing the steps of the new process.
Describe your role as the DNP leader is supporting the change process. (2 pages)
What leadership skills will you utilize to lead the change effort?

How will you deal with individuals at the three levels of the system, as well as stakeholders with differing opinions?

How will you assure there is reawakened passion for the change effort to be sustained?

Identify and define three measurable outcomes (e.g., patient satisfaction scores, nurse engagement scores, clinical outcomes) to measure the success of your implementation plan. (1 page)

b. What are the expectations of the customers and patients?

Poetry Explication

Choose one of the poems from your readings in Chapter 33: “Poetry for Further Reading” and compose a written explication of that poem. The poem you select must be sophisticated enough to sustain a detailed analysis. You may choose a poem by the same poet you discussed in the Module 5 Discussion Board who comes from a different culture than your own.

Your explication should be 3-4 pages.
It should analyze one or more of the poem’s elements (see readings from chapters 27 and 28 for specific elements).
Your explication is not a summary of what the poem is about. Nor are you expected to unravel the poem’s “meaning.” Rather, you are explaining how the poet used a particular poetic element, and you are analyzing how that element affects the rest of the poem.
When writing your explication:

Choose a poem that is sophisticated enough to sustain a detailed analysis.
Include a thesis statement that states the element you are analyzing and why.
Follow a systematic writing pattern by analyzing the element on which you are focusing line by line or stanza by stanza.
Provide textual examples (words, phrases, and lines) from the poem to illustrate your analytical statements. Cite your sources using correct APA formatting found in CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements. See the tutorial in Module 1 for an explanation on how to do this.
The UNC Writing Center and The Purdue OWL provide detailed examples of poetry explication.
