Parental involvement is essential to any classroom. The research shows that children with parents who are active in their school do better academically. You will be designing a presentation that introduces you and your classroom to the parents for the new school year. Some of the items from your First Week of School PowerPoint® will be “recycled” into this assignment. You may want to tweak them because the audience is very different — now your audience is the parents.

Some of the portions of this presentation you may want to actually use in your own classroom as an actual presentation when you first meet your students’ parents; other sections you will use during the year in different ways. This is an exciting and practical Assignment!

For this Assignment, you will create a presentation using PowerPoint.
You will include the following in your plan:

Basic description of your class (grade, subject, room number). Remember you are teaching a secondary subject matter classroom for all ED581 Assignments.
2. Your introduction (you can recycle this from your First Day of School PowerPoint). Be precise and professional. This slide is not your resume, your scrapbook, or your Facebook page. If you decide to use a picture, make sure it is a professional looking picture.

3. Classroom Activities: Include a detailed description of three classroom activities for which the parents will be invited to participate (one per slide).
Jobs/functions volunteers will have to perform.

Objective of the activity: what will students learn? (What will you assess?)
Materials you need donated, if any.
Any preparation that needs to happen at home (if you need someone to cut paper, staple something) or in school before activities takes place (making photocopies, assembling something).
How much time will this take? When do you need volunteers in your class?
Do your volunteers need any special skills?
Description of activity (what will happen?).
State or national standard(s) this activity will target/meet.
Assessment: How will you know that your students learned what you set out to teach them?

4. Home Activities: Include a detailed description of three home activities for which the parents will be required to help their child complete. You need to include:

Create a short introductory letter (or email) that you would send your students and their families a few days before your class starts. Remember you are going to be teaching secondary school, your letter should be written for middle or high school students and their parents in mind.

Subject area you teach that specific group the letter is for (I may teach Spanish 1 and AP Spanish, I would have a different letter for each group… for this assignment you only need to include one letter-just for one group or level/subject).
Overall description of your course– this is not a course catalogue or a syllabus but this statement should be specific enough that the students and parents get a sense of what the students will be learning this year in your class.
Mention three projects, assignments, events, guest speakers, books, etc. that the students will be exposed to or involved in your class during the year. Remember, it’s not a syllabus so don’t dwell on minute details but make sure the description of each activity, event, trip, experience is detailed enou

Training is one of the key elements that helps produce a competitive workforce. Training can help an organization communicate policies and procedures

as well as educate employees on key processes related to their positions. Orientation, for example, can help introduce an organization to new

employees. Training can take many forms, including classroom, online, and one-on-one mentoring. Though training budgets are often the first item to be

reduced or eliminated during challenging economic conditions, leaders must look at the cost of not doing training. While training helps make an

organization competitive, it can also help make sure an organization minimizes legal challenges.

Before beginning the assessment, complete the following:

Choose an organization to use for this assessment. It can be where you are currently employed or a company with which you are familiar. It must be an

organization that is researchable, as you will need to gather and analyze information in order to complete the assessment. You may use the same

organization for the other assessments in this course.
If you choose the organization where you are currently employed, please keep in mind that the analyses you make must be based on facts that can be

documented rather than your personal opinion as an employee.
Research the training and development functions of your chosen organization.

Persuasive Paper Part 1: A Problem Exists

Using your thesis statement and research, present the problem that needs to be addressed with your proposed solution. Note: Your solution, advantages, and challenges, will be in Parts 2 and 3.

Begin a pain diary that lasts for at least a week. Many of your pains will be acute, but nearly everyone suffers from headaches, at least

occasionally, and you may have other chronic pains, such as low back pain or pain from various injuries. As part of your pain diary, rate the

intensity of your pain using the MPQ to record your pain. (See the Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire, page 193.)

Record the time of day when the pain is most intense, and note environmental or psychosocial events that seem to relate to the pain’s onset.

Next, describe your attempts to cope with the pain. Did you try to relax, take aspirin or other analgesic drugs, rest in bed, or use some other

means to seek pain relief? How effective was this method? When you finish for the week, review your journal and make some predictions concerning

when, where, or why a pain will return.

What do you think about self-reporting as it impacts perceived pain?

A reminder: You may compare ideas, assess the value of theories, verify evidence, and make choices based on reasoned arguments. While this

assignment does not have a page requirements, please be sure to fully and completely elaborate on your thoughts and draw connections to the

topics we are studying in detail. Cite your sources using APA format. APA style asks that your paper have 1 inch margins in addition to being

double spaced and font should be Times New Roman 12.

Even though this journal is informal, that is it is not a paper, you still must address intellectual skills such as analysis, synthesis,

evaluation, and application (see Bloom). I do not require a certain number of pages. I do require a complete review of the skills suggested and

sources to back up your ideas.

We’re going to use the statistical software, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences or SPSS, to work with data in this class. It analyzes data on a

spreadsheet. The data must be entered on the spreadsheet correctly for the analyses to be correct.

Follow the instructions from the lecture for creating a data file in SPSS. When you look at your data in “Data View” the data go in vertical columns. So

the top of each column is labeled with the variable name. Research participants are listed or implied in the first column. Once all the variables have

been entered in the columns, the data from each research participant appear in that participant’s corresponding row when data on each variable are

collected from all participants, as it is in our case.

When you are setting up the data file, create 25 cases (n=25, with 5 responses for each respondent to your survey). In the next assignment you will be

Create a column for each variable in your survey and put the name of each variable in Row 1 of the spreadsheet. For example, if you asked a person’s
