New eReader product – Advertising Strategy

Assignment Instructions and Background
Congratulations, you have just been appointed the Vice President of Advertising at the Keller Advertising Agency! Your agency has just signed a new client, LibraTech, that wants to introduce their new eReader into the marketplace in a way that will scare the competition. Their version of the eReader features flip-page technology and fabulous full color that allows the reader to read any type of book easily from a novel to a travel book in the same detail they would find in the print version. Writing approach: This paper is a proposal for your new client. You want to show the client that you have done your homework.
1. Introduction: Start out your paper with an introduction that teases the client with just enough detail to keep them reading. Suggested length: about one page.
2. Product Naming Strategy: Your client needs your recommendations on what to name the product. Explain in detail why you chose the name and explain why the name will create the brand image they need. Suggested length: about 1 page
3. Research: Your first assignment is to analyze the marketplace so you can determine an effective advertising campaign that will emphasize this products strengths and features, as compared to the competitors. Start out with at least a paragraph that explains your research strategy. Focus your research towards online book stores and electronics companies that are currently offering their version of an eReader. Critically evaluate each and create a table that compares at least three of these competitors. Make sure that you identify their current advertising strategies. The higher level of detail you research, the better you will be able to create an effective advertising campaign. Close this section by analyzing the information that you found. Explain which advertising strategies are working and which ones have not worked well and why. Make sure that you use APA format to provide citations within the body of your report and provide a reference page at the end of your paper. Suggested length: two pages.
4. Advertising strategy: Now that you have done your research, it is time to prepare a plan for how LibraTech can most effectively execute an advertising campaign to create a buzz and capture market share from their competitors. Points to consider are as follows.

o Who is the target market?
o What are the relevant consumer behavior issues?
o What is your overall strategy?
o What is your advertising message?
o Consider designing an advertising campaign with a combination of different types of advertising media and marketing communication tools. (See media types in this week’s lecture or the textbook for ideas.)
o What role does each type of media play in the plan?
o What are the pros/cons of the campaign you have selected?
At the end, summarize your plan highlighting the key points for your client. Be creative and have fun with your advertising strategy. Suggested length: three to five pages.

The Advertising Critique should be approximately 9 to 12 pages in length, plus any applicable attachments. The fully completed advertising critique should include a title page (include your name, date, title of your plan, name of the course), a right justified page header with page number, the content outlined above plus any applicable tables, graphs or attachments. In-text citations and a reference page are required, as is adherence to APA 6th edition citation standards. Develop a tightly focused, strategically oriented paper. Your client will be looking for the depth and breadth of your findings and arguments. Do not write in any section that you “couldn’t find needed information”. Be sure to reflect the concepts learned thus far! And have fun!

Cohabitating couples and relational satisfaction

Cohabitating couples and relational satisfaction

COM 308
Building Block III: Method Section (approx. 2-3 pages; 50 points)
Assignment Description

The final component of this major assignment involves the method and analysis for your Hs/RQs. This assignment is the culmination of your original

communication research project and builds upon BB1 and BB2.

When you submit this paper you MUST include: (1) a cover page; (2) abstract; (3) review of literature from BBII; (4) methods section; (5) appendix with all

scales/measures you propose to use; and, (6) references (if you included new citations in your method section then you must redo your references).

COVER PAGE: The cover page should be in APA format (APA cover page example is on Blackboard)

ABSTRACT: The abstract should be one paragraph, not indented, on a page by itself after the cover page. This paragraph should summarize the literature and

method sections of your paper in approximately 250 words or less. [1 paragraph]

INTRO/LITERATURE REVIEW:Please include your literature review (BBII) in this paper so I can be reminded of how you have conceptualized your variables, as

well as how you have set up your arguments to arrive at your H/RQs.

METHODS: The last section of the paper consists of methodological considerations—in other words, how would you conduct a study that could be used to test

your RQs/Hs? The method section should be approximately 2–3 pages in length (double-spaced) and you should begin each subsection with its own heading in

correct APA format. Headings are required. This section should be organized as follows (do not depart from the general outline below):

RQ/H: State your RQ or H in appropriate format. This will be the first part of your paper that will lead into to your methods. If you needed to do

edits/changes to your RQ/H – please make sure you do this. If you have questions, please come see me.

Method
First, briefly describe your research method using the appropriate terms, such as experiment or survey. Also, explain why this type of method is

being used (i.e., why the specific method is appropriate for this topic in terms of why exploratory or descriptive research is more appropriate than

correlational or experimental – or vice-versa). Please make sure to write in future tense throughout the method paper as you will not actually conduct the

study.

Participants
The participant section should explain who (or what) will be the source of data for your study. Some questions you should ask yourself, include:

Where will your data come from? How will your participants be chosen? How many participants will there be? What are participants’ ages, ethnicity, or other

important demographic characteristics? Please consult published articles to see how this is done. For example, you might explain that you would like to use

a sample of participants from a particular demographic, a random sample of individuals in a given town, or transcripts from particular conversations.

Whatever the case, explain in detail what sample you need to test the RQs/Hs and provide explanation for why the sample is appropriate. Be specific and

concise.

Measures(use appropriate level headings for each measure, if necessary)
Second, explain the measures that you intend to use to test your RQ/H; that is, describe how all of your variables are operationalized. This includes all

demographic, independent, dependent, moderating, control, or other variables. These measures must coincide with the variables in your RQ/H and must be

established, validated measures. The description of each measure should contain: variable name, whether it is a scale, how many items are on the scale, an

alpha coefficient describing the reliability of the scale (report what past studies have found with regards to reliability), the response categories (e.g.,

5-point Likert scale [1 = strongly disagree; 5 = strongly agree]), and at least 3 sample items per measure. Use established measures (rather than making up

your own) whenever possible, and always cite where you got the measure from when applicable. If you would be using observational or coding methods, explain

what coding procedures would be used (again, they should be pre-existing coding measures). Essentially, your job here is to explain how you will get your

data into an analyzable format and justify the method that you choose.

Procedures
Third, fully explain the procedures of the study. Specifically, indicate how participants will be recruited and what the participants will do during their

participation in the study. If they will be participating in an experiment, explain how it will work – bet detailed about the steps of the experimental

process. If you are doing a survey, explain how you will recruit participants, as well as how you will distribute and collect responses on the

questionnaire. As you explain the procedures, be sure to note the reasons for the decisions that you have made.

Limitations
Discuss some limitations of your design, including potential threats to internal and external validity and how the threats will: A.) not be harmful

to the study due to the chosen procedures, or B.) possibly impact the conclusions/results. It should not be difficult to be specific and accurate here,

since your book discusses all of these issues in chapters that we have read. The content of this section will reflect the content of your article critique

assignments.

Appendix (use page break)
Turn in a copy of the measures you propose to use in your study. You may have to re-type these. Appendix format can be found in the APA manual.

References (use page break)
Have an appropriate reference page in correct APA format. This section should be up-to-date and include any and all citations utilized in both the

literature review and methods section.

Due to SafeAssign by the specified due date in the syllabus.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
• The method section should be written in future tense since you have not completed the study (e.g., “Undergraduate students from ASU will be

recruited to participate in this study.” versus “Undergraduate students from ASU participated in this study”).
• Since you will not actually be conducting the study, you will not have “real” research participants. For the purposes of this paper, you should

“make up” the numbers for the research participants section. What I will be looking for is whether you pick numbers that make sense. For example, if your

target population is college students, I would expect to see a mean age of about 20 not 35.
• Your operationalization (how you will measure) of your variables must correspond to the conceptualization you provided in the literature review.

Hence, even if your operationalization is structurally correct, if it does not align with your conceptualization, you will lose points.

ADVANCE TECHNICAL WRITING

Writing assignment #1 will be an instruction manual.
Instruction manuals explain to readers how to operate something or make something. Helpful
resources on how to write an instruction manual include the following:
 “Instructions, procedures, and policies,” a chapter from Tebeaux and Dragga in
eReserves
 Jerz’s literacy page features a fine set of tips on writing instructions. Please click here to
view the site.
 David McMurrey has a very helpful website on writing instructions. Please click here to
view the webpage.
 Wikibooks has an excellent guide to writing instructions. Please click here to view the
site.
Requirements
The instruction manual will include the following sections or features:
 Title Page
 Overview or Introduction with necessary background information such as time needed,
skill ability, relevance, context, stage setting, etc.

 The Mayfield Handbook, which is also one of the resources listed in our class, features
excellent tips on writing instructions.
o Section 2.8.3 of the handbook, Instructions and Procedures, will be particularly
helpful.
 Examples of instruction manuals for you to look at:
o an example of an instruction manual on setting up a VPN
o a video instruction on swimming. Note how the author lists the equipment and
then proceeds to mention the steps involved. The video is over 10 minutes long.
You might just take a look at the first couple of minutes to see how he lists the
equipment and then proceeds to the steps.
Length:
There is no minimum or maximum number of words for this assignment. Your goal is to write
coherent, well designed instructions for a user.

Criminal Justice

In response to the sexual assault and murder of 7-year old Megan Kanka by a convicted sex offender out on parole and the public uproar that

ensued, the state of New Jersey enacted “Megan’s Law.” The law, as originally passed, required sex offenders, upon their release from prison, to

register with New Jersey law enforcement authorities, who are to notify the public about their release. The public was also to be provided with

the offender’s name; a recent photograph; a physical description; a list of the offenses for which he or she was convicted; the offender’s

current address and place of employment or school; and the offender’s automobile license plate number. Currently, all 50 states and the federal

government have Megan’s laws that require sex offenders released from prison to register with local law enforcement authorities. Megan’s laws

are not uniform across states. For example, not all states require active community notification; many of them (including the U.S. government)

only make the information available to the public. Research your state’s Megan’s Law. Based on the ideal characteristics of a criminal law (see

pages 96-97 in the text), is Megan’s Law a “good” law? Discuss each characteristic as it relates to the statute. (respond with a minimum of 250

words)

Theory of Knowledge

There are at least two kinds of things we can remember: past events, and facts that we learned in the past. In order to have memory of a fact

that we learned in the past, do we have to remember the event of learning it? Give one reason/brief argument why someone might answer yes to

this, and one reason/brief argument why someone might answer no.
