Minor Project 2 car pricing simulation

Minor Project 2
.
Universal Rental Car Pricing Simulation

Minor Project 2 draws on the content knowledge gained from Periods 1-3.

Assignment

Write a report of no more than 2,000 words (not including tables and other appendixes) explaining your strategy, results, and observations from the special scenario of Universal Rental Car Pricing Simulation assigned for Minor Project 2. Design and format of the report are your choice. When quoting from or crediting references, use the Harvard style. This means that there will not be footnotes, and that citations/references are “worked into” the regular text. Please see a copy of the Harvard Business Review in the Regent Library databases for examples.

Content

The report should start with an overview of your strategy (its goals and any changes during the scenario), your results (did they meet expectations?), and an explanation of how your strategy, market conditions, and competitor behavior led to those results. The body of the report should answer/discuss the following questions and topics:
•Weekday vs. weekend demand. How did they differ? What are they a proxy for? How did their price responsiveness differ and why? How did you use this information in your pricing decisions?
•Cost structure. Describe the economics of this business. In what ways did you use the breakeven calculator? How did the cost structure affect your pricing decisions?
•Competitive price moves. What did you think the competition was doing? What kind of competitor were you up against? How intelligent was the competitor? On what do you base that assessment?
•General market conditions. Did you observe any patterns in overall market demand over the duration of the game? Explain. How would you characterize elasticity of demand in this market overall? Was it a good year or a bad year to be managing this business? Why?

Note that this project is graded using the Major Project Rubric (Not QEP). Note that we are using the Major Project Rubric for both Minor and Major Projects. Please click on the underlined ‘Minor Project 2’ heading above and then look at the rubric so that you know how the project will be evaluated.

Discuss what stood out to you about personality assessment practices.
Reflect on current research trends that utilize this information and how the interpretation of these findings may vary across cultures.

Concert report

Summary:
The nature of the concert requirements and accompanying reports is expose students to musical experiences to which they are for the most part unfamiliar. Attendance to two concerts is required, however I cannot stress that by no means should you feel limited to only two. I can only accept two written reports due in part to the volume of students in this class, however nobody should feel limited to exploring all the various “musical” activities that Los Angeles has to offer. I would that the two concerts are different in genre (rock, jazz, folk, classical solo, orchestral, band, opera, modernism, etc.) This provides students with the widest and most lucrative experience this class has to offer. Mind you I consider concert attendance to be the single most important component of this class so be sure not to procrastinate and to complete the requirement in a timely manner.
As to the nature of the essay itself: This is not a research paper, nor is any source material expected or necessary. Rather this is a “personal” perspective on your own subjective experience at the various musical event you choose to write about. Not all events are equal, and some events may provide more capacity for written exploration than others. I would like to insist on at least a full page of writing (double-spaced, 12pt font, etc….(standard collegiate style essay parameters). The content is to be purely “subjective”. This is to reflect your individual experience only….nothing more, nothing less.
Sometimes a musical experience affects us emotionally, sometimes visually. It would not be improper to write a short story elected upon the experience….perhaps one that has absolutely nothing to do specifically with the music itself, but visual imagery “inspired” by the music. This would also be acceptable.
Certainly the more you explore and have fun with the inner reflections of the emotional and intellectual psyche, the more you will get out of this assignment and the happier I will be. I refuse to put an upper limit in terms of length as that would be countering the “creative” process which I am hoping to nurture.
The DUE DATES for both reports will be the last day of class.
You may submit either up to that time via this link. I will read through and grade submitted assignments at various times over the semester. Grades will appear in moodle as I assign them.

Economics

Paper.
Objective paper:
The participant is able to describe a actual macro topic. In order to do so, the participant can formulate a (central) research question with related sub questions and relate these into micro economic solutions.
Criteria:
•Size approx. 9 pages (content).
•Formulate a research question + sub questions.
•Use external literature research (Harvard-Guidelines) to underpin research.

•Use at least 4 external sources.

Background:
The Troika (European Commission, ECB and IMF) has financially supported a number of European countries, including Ireland, Spain and Greece. The offered loans were used to strengthen the financial position of the countries and prevent them to go (technical) bankrupt. These were not free loans. In return for receiving this financial assistance, the countries with the deficits had to comply with the terms and reform their economy.
Based on the findings of the Troika it periodically determined if the countries make sufficient progress and whether there is need for continuation of financial support.
In the meantime (June 2014) the economic environment is significantly improved: Spain and Ireland are standing on their own two feet again. Greece at first has made a modest progress. In autumn 2014 the Troika announced that Greece needed an additional (third) loan. Due to political instability new elections were needed. This was won by the left wing party Syriza. In order to keep their promise to the voters, a long and fruitless period of negotiations with the Troika, broke the fragile economic recovery.

Assignments:
A1. Sketch briefly the starting situation of the crisis.
A2. Sketch briefly the starting situation for the three countries, which led to the inevitable need for financial support.
The Troika has demanded country by country to execute a number of specific measures in order to reform the economies. Resolves the following situations to micro-economic market models.

B1. Ireland: in Ireland, the VAT goes up to 23%. Illustrate by graph this effect.

B2. Greece: in Greece the transport licenses are abolished. The price of a license amounted to € 100.000, – Now those are abolished, anyone can be a truck driver. Illustrate by graph the function of a licensing system.

B3. Spain: in Spain is a general pay cut of 10% proposed. Illustrate by graph the functioning of such a pay cut.
The Netherlands also cannot escape reforms. With the liberalization of the housing market -by limiting the mortgage interest deduction- a first step is taken. Assume that the current deductible interest amounts €10.000, – per year per household. The deduction will drop to € 5.000, – per year per household. A million households use the mortgage interest deduction.
C1. Explain what will happen and illustrate by graph this limitation.
Due to the economic crisis, the housing prices dropped by 20% (compared to July 2008). Many new bought houses have a property value lower than the price paid for. In order to stimulate the housing market, the Gov’t has introduced a temporary tax free donation scheme. According to this measure, parents could in the fiscal of 2014, donate a tax-free amount up to € 100.000, to their children. The amount could only be used for housing renovation or to lower the mortgage. The donation scheme was popular. Halfway the fiscal 50,000 households have already used it.

C2. Is according to the economic principle this donation scheme fair? Explain your answer?

LLB Law of Equity & Trusts

Questions:
‘The beneficiary principle has hampered the development of trusts law in England and Wales for over two centuries; it is too rigid and enforced far too strictly. Until the rules surrounding it are relaxed then there cannot be any flexibility with respect to private purpose trusts in this jurisdiction.’
