This is what my lecturer is expecting:

Instead of looking for academic references specific to your film, you should look for references specific to your methodology. Don’t assume that the information is mostly contained in a film, and that you don’t need references. This is a big mistake. Writing an essay is always a theoretical endeavour that requires referencing, whether it is about film theories or about film practice. This means that your methodology needs a lot of referencing, not the actual film. If you don’t have a proper methodology in place, you will risk merely describing the film or making subjective assumptions. So, I recommend you forget finding references about the film itself, but instead looking for references that help you with theoretical frameworks for analysing the film. For instance, if you look at how the characters are portrayed in your film, you have to look up theories of POV and character empathy/identification. There is a lot out there. Just describing how film grammar (mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound) is used to show the characters is not enough. You have to go deeper than that. So, decide what your methodology is, and then you can logically derive the texts you need to read.
