Is there an enduring self?

“ John Locke argued that memory can explain the persistence of the self through time, or the problem of personal identity. Yet it seems that this explanation could run into problems when we consider cases such as amnesia, Alzheimer’s and even the common experience of no remembering everything from years ago. Does John Locke’s argument really fail given these considerations??
Based on this argument write an essay. I have to agree or disagree, then I have to support my choice.
This is what I think:
“I do agree with John Locke that memory can explain the persistence of the self through time, because it is not possible to be one person today and waking up tomorrow being someone completely different. In some cases when people are affected with deseases that affect memory such as, amnesia or Alzheimer’s it is just something unfortunate that happen to a few people not to all human beings. In order to function as a normal human being we need our memory.
