TASK:
You will create a lead story for a newspaper on an event which has been detailed on the stimulus page. Your newspaper which will include the following;
- A headline
- A by-line
- At least two graphics/photographs/images which contain captions – More can be used
- A highlighted quote
Students will need to work with a partner after the first draft has been created. This stage of the process will see students supporting each other by editing and making suggestions on how the article can be improved.
Presentation of the newspaper article:
- You must design your newspaper article on your device.
- Your article must be printed in hard copy, back to back on A4 sized paper.
- Your article must be approximately two A4 pages in length and must not exceed three A4 pages in length.
- The text must be original; created by you.

These are the notes you took when you researched the event and interviewed those involved. Your job now is to shape these details into an interesting and engaging news article.
General Details
- Light plane crash
- Temora (south west NSW) airstrip – Took off at 10.15am Sunday 12 August 2017.
- Three people in the plane (as listed below)
- At 15,000 feet, the plane stalled and the engine could not be revived.
- The passengers were directed to exit the plane near the jump site
- The pilot steered the plane away from town and towards an uninhabited area, then parachuted to safety.
- All jumped to safety.
- Despite the potential for tragedy no one was injured in the event.
- The plane crashed in a remote area and the local fire brigade were called to extinguish the fire that was caused.
Pilot – Arthur Anidea
- 20 years experience
- “The plane completed a full service only two weeks ago.”
- “The engine just stalled. Why? I have no idea at this stage. Perhaps a blockage in the fuel line.”
- “I’ve been doing this most of my adult life. I love it!”

- “At this stage, I am just glad I’m going home to my family.
Other details
- Air crash investigators are investigating the incident and will present their findings over the coming weeks.
- The parachuting business has been temporarily shut down until the findings of the investigation have been released.
