Assignment 3: Human Resources Planning and Employee Relations

Due Week 10 and worth 360 points

 

Building on the work that you completed in Assignment 2, continue evaluating the role of functions HR in creating a set of Human Resources’ policies and procedures for the acute care hospital.

 

Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you:

1. Explain the importance of maintaining accurate and objective employee records, indicating the consequences that may result from lack of record keeping. Provide support for your rationale.
2. Provide an example of formal and an example of informal documentation that would normally be maintained in an employee file, indicating how each is likely to protect an employer.
3. Determine the most significant factor that will ensure an effective legal termination, indicating the most likely way employees can protect themselves from termination in a downsizing situation. Provide support for your rationale.
4. Analyze two (2) major challenges that today’s health care leaders face in trying to uphold the ethics of critique, justice, and caring, indicating how managers can balance the need for ethics with employee and organizational needs.
5. Create a detailed outline of an effective succession planning process that will help ensure a smooth transition as members of the management team at your organization begin to retire. (The plan should prescribe, at a minimum, how to identify employees for advancement, training and development programs, mentorships, and a timeline for preparing leaders for their role.)
6. From both a management and employee perspective, justify or dispute unionization. Provide support for your rationale.
7. Suggest the best way in which HR can continue to be an effective strategic partner in helping this organization achieve its future goals. Provide support for your rationale.

1. Communications within a computer network rely on numerous components for data to traverse from the initial sender of a message or file to the receiver at the distant end of the communication path. In addition to the media that the data travels across, the devices that guide the data packets through the network, and the protocols that establish end-to-end connectivity and negotiate the communication, network services play a critical role in providing the necessary addressing and name resolution services. Describe the following services and their role in network communications: ARP, DHCP, ICMP, SNMP, and DNS.

 

2. Modern organizations rely on the Internet for information and research necessary to stay competitive but this access can come with significant risk if they don’t take the necessary steps to safeguard their internal resources from outside attackers. In this week’s reading, various types of firewalls and firewall configurations were discussed. Describe the terms bastion host, DMZ, dual-homed firewall, screened host, and screened subnet and their roles in firewall architectures.

 

3. Many organizations employ a mobile workforce and/or provide the option of telework to their employees to allow them to work from home. In both situations, a secure means of accessing the corporate network remotely must be provided. Discuss the four main tunneling protocols used to provide virtual private network access between remote users and their corporate network.

 

4. Explain the TCP/IP Model in terms of functions at each layer. How do the layers map to the OSI Model layers. Describe the functions of hubs/repeaters, bridges, switches, routers, and gateways. At what layers of the OSI model does each device operate?

 

5. Depending on their needs and budget, companies can choose from a variety of perimeter security options. Discuss the differences between packet-filtering, stateful inspection, proxy, dynamic packet filtering, kernel proxy, and next generation firewalls and how they provide security filtering to protect the perimeter.

 

How would a better understanding of the Sun help us understand the threat created by greenhouse gas

emissions? How could these observations be carried out? Is a visible light telescope on Earth or in

space enough to determine how the atmosphere and the Sun interact?

2. How are sunspot numbers determined and linked to short-term climate change? Is there evidence that

sunspots are related to other phenomena, such as stock market cycles or clothing styles? Explain.

3. What forms of nonrenewable and renewable energy are solar energy? How much of the Earth’s energy

needs could be replaced by renewable forms of solar energy?

4. Could life exist in a molecular cloud? How can astronomers peer into molecular clouds to see what is

going on inside when visible light will not penetrate these regions of space? Explain.

This week’s required readings discuss the residual effects of abuse at the hands of an intimate partner. Intimate partner violence remains an important phenomenon in American culture. Depending on the characteristics of the victim, multiple barriers could exist which make it challenging to address instances of intimate partner violence.

Address the following in your initial post:

• Analyze the rise of our understanding of intimate partner violence?
• What are some common risk factors associated with intimate partner violence?
• How do age, gender, and financial resources impact an individual’s ability to address intimate partner violence?
• Critique the criminal justice system’s responses and explain the effectiveness of the criminal justice system’s response to intimate partner violence.

• How can The King Company reduce labor costs and still save as many jobs as possible?

In your initial post, briefly, describe the components of a good evaluation question. Explain the impact of political and ethical issues associated with program evaluation. Explain the process involved in formulating and developing a quality evaluation question. Identify pertinent components that good evaluation questions should contain. In addition, identify an appropriate topic for the Final Paper, and formulate a preliminary research evaluation question relevant to that assignment.

1.Quantitative Research Designs

In order to find the best information on a topic, not only should you develop a question and search for resources, but you should also know how to analyze the value of the resources that you identify. There are different ways to evaluate resources, such as using the hierarchy of evidence, which you explored in Week 4 of this course. Another way to evaluate resources is to consider the appropriateness of the research design. Understanding how research designs contribute to the quality of a study is essential for being able to analyze resources when conducting a literature review or locating evidence for practice.

In this Discussion, you consider the different research designs and evaluate how these designs have been used to research a specific topic. You also consider strategies for selecting an appropriate research design.

To prepare:

· Review the information in the course text on quantitative research designs. Focus on the information on, “Guidelines for Critiquing Research Designs in Quantitative Studies”.

· Select a topic from the list below and search the Walden Library to find two different quantitative research studies addressing that issue:

o Caregiver stress

o Anxiety in children

o Sleep apnea

o Depression in college freshmen

o Rural health care issues

o Post-traumatic stress syndrome

o Traumatic brain injury in veterans

o Health effects of environmental contaminants

o Bipolar disorder

o End-of-life ethical issues

o Alternative medicine

· For each of the sources that you select, identify the type of quantitative research design used, and evaluate whether it is the most appropriate approach to the research.

· Consider the ramifications of choosing an inappropriate design for a research study.
