Contrasting Leadership Models

Contrasting Leadership Models :
No definitive recipe exists for strong leadership. A quick look throughout history reveals that ‘strong’ leadership exists in many forms. The leadership methods used by Gandhi, for example, differed dramatically from those of Genghis Khan. Gandhi’s peaceful methods brought about social change, while Genghis Khan personified brutality in the pursuit of power. Both leaders achieved their goals, and they certainly exerted power. Their contrasting methods demonstrate the need for attention to ethics as well as the implications and messages inherent to different leadership styles. Leadership methods can exhibit a multitude of characteristics.

This Assignment will be a critical analysis of successful and contrasting leadership approaches in public health systems. This assignment will consist of identifying the qualities of these different public health leaders and examining the various strengths and weaknesses of their methodologies, as they apply to improving public health.

To complete this Individual Assignment:

Submit a paper in which you address the following:

◾Compose a brief biography of two contemporary, successful, health care leaders. Who are they? What have they achieved? Why are they significant enough to warrant analysis?
◾Summarise the region, background and applicable health care organisations pertaining to each of your selected public health leaders.
◾Compare and contrast the leadership qualities of each of your selected leaders. Be sure to address the following questions:
◦What characteristics are desirable? Why?
◦What characteristics should be avoided? Why?
◾Compare and contrast the different approaches your selected leaders take in leading health systems and evaluate their effectiveness at improving health and managing disease in their respective regions/organisations.
◾You should fully state and justify any choices that you make using the suggested readings for this unit as well as your own research.

orgnizational communication

*Think of a time when you struggled with semantic meaning. Perhaps you had trouble understanding someone’s highly abstract language, or maybe you confused someone else by using equivocal language. In your learning journal, use some vocabulary you’ve learned in this chapter to describe the misunderstanding that occurred, and how it might have been avoided if possible.

Digestive Disorders

Digestive Disorders

Many patient symptoms can be tied to multiple disorders, which may lead to misdiagnoses. For instance, consider two digestive disorders of the gastrointestinal tract—inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. These two disorders are commonly confused because they present similar symptoms. As an advanced practice nurse, you must know the differences to properly diagnose and treat the disorders. How does the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease compare to the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome? How do treatments for the two disorders compare?

To prepare:
•Review Chapter 34 in the Huether and McCance text and Chapter 13 in the McPhee and Hammer text.
•Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Think about similarities and differences between the disorders.
•Consider common treatments for inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Reflect on whether treatments for one disorder would work for the other disorder.
•Select one of the following patient factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of and treatments for each disorder.

Post on or before Day 3 an explanation of the pathophysiological mechanisms of inflammatory bowel disorder and irritable bowel syndrome, including similarities and differences. Then describe common treatments, addressing whether treatments for one disorder would work for the other disorder. Finally, explain how the patient factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of and treatments for each disorder.
Must use resources no older than 5 years

This article examines the similarities between gastroesophageal reflux disease and irritable bowel syndrome. It focuses on symptoms presented in patients with the disorders, as well as management and treatment options

Spiritual Needs Assessment

Part one:Interview a person. Be sure to focus on the interviewee”s experience as a patient. Review The Joint Commission resource which provides some guideline for creating spiritual assessment tools for evaluating the spiritual needs of patients. Use this tool or make your own. Create a survey to assess the subjects spiritual needs during the interview. The spiritual needs assessment survey neediness minimum of five questions that can be answered during the interview. During the interview, document the interviewee’s response. Submit the transcript of the interview. T transcript should include the questions asked and the answers provided.Take detailed notes, no names. PART 2 Analysis of your interview experience. Be sure to excluded names, but included SEX, AGE, ETHNICITY, RELIGION IN YOUR RESPONSE. Include in response. 1. What went well? 2. What would you do differently? 3. Were there any berries or challenges that inhibited your ability to complete the assessment tool? How would you address these in the future or change your assessment to better address these challenges? 4. Describe the spiritual experience you had with your patient, family member or friend using this tool. How doses this tool allow you to better meet the needs of your patient? 5. Did you discover that illness and stress amplified the spiritual concern and needs of your interviewee? Explain your answer with examples: We must submit the subscript of the interview and analysis of your results

Ethics Paper

This is a group project for health/nursing ethical issue. In summary, our group is assigned with an ethical case, and each member is to write on one section based on the attached grading rubric (see instruction file). My section is about Key Players and Values. The instruction file includes: assignment instruction, ethical case for our group, proposed outline of my section “Key Players and Values”, grading rubric of paper, and a general group paper outline. I also include the ethics lecture for viewing. This whole paper MUST be less than 10 pages with at least two references! Because other members due their parts, I think my section can be 1 – 1.5 page long. PLEASE follow the grading rubric.
Key Players and what value: THIS IS MY SECTION TO WRITE! PLEASE SEE
THE GRADING RUBRIC BELOW: “KEY PLAYERS” SECTION.
1. Primary care provider and Cardiologist: what they want, their values: life over
death…
2. Nurses: advocate for patient, what else can nurses do…
3. Psychiatric provider: what can he do for patient…
4. Mrs. C: what patient wants, her values: autonomy and own decision making…
5. Nephew: Does he want to be involved and what might he value maybe he wants her
alive and well or perhaps is over having to take care of her? What if Mrs. C is not
able to make her own decision, what if psychiatric evaluation came back and
deemed Mrs. C had no capacity, could he be her proxy/surrogate…

Qualitative Assignment

Attempt ONE of the following:
“Value of sports”
1. Develop and explain a research design for an ethnographic study to find out about a particular sub-population group of your choice (for example, young people, Aboriginal people, women, the elderly, etc.).
2. Discuss how the purposes of this research and the design of this study might vary if a grounded theory approach had been used instead
OR
“Leadership”
1. Developandexplainaresearchdesignforaphenomenologicalstudytofindoutaboutan aspect of leadership.
2. Discuss how the purposes of this research and the design of this study might be varied if a narrative approach had been used instead.
Word length: 3,000
A sample information letter and consent form may be included in the appendix, in addition to this word allowance, if this is needed.
Advice
Please read this advice before you begin the task.
Learning outcomes:
The intended purposes of this assignment are to demonstrate you
a. Have gained an in depth understanding of two different approaches to qualitative research
b. Are familiar with the requirements and style of writing to produce a concise research proposal
and are able to use these effectively
c. Are able to produce a single research design that is concise, consistent, comprehensive, easy
to read and well justified
d. Can outline concisely how the focal research question and the research design for the same
topic would vary if an alternative qualitative approach were used
Structure: The assignment has two parts, part 1 and part 2.
Part 1: The first task is to produce and explain a research design. The design will include all the elements discussed in the text except the literature review, for example, epistemology, theoretical framework, methodology, methods, sampling, or ethics. For the first task, you will need to explain the rational for the design choices you have made and you will need to ensure that you have used the approach consistently
Part 2:
The second task is to discuss how the research design you have developed would be vary if you used the alternative approach identified in the question.

Focus: Remember, you are producing a single coherent research design to find out about the topic NOT a report on the topic.
a. The research design should provide all the information needed for someone else to conduct the research and analyse the results.
b. You are NOT expected to know anything about the topic of the research, or to research the subject matter for this.
c. Do NOT do a literature review for this task, Instead briefly outline what literature you think might be relevant (for example, provide search terms).
d. You are NOT expected to submit a second complete alternative research design, just discuss the similarities and most important differences.
4. Referencing: Use the text for the qualitative unit (Qualitative Research: Choosing amongst five approaches). It is not good practice to use multiple low quality references for methodology, especially if your only purpose is to increase your ‘reference count’. It is much better to use a small number of good quality references well. You are expected to consult other references to add depth of knowledge (at least five).
5. Presentation: Each of the two parts needs a different format Part 1
Research Design: present the research design (and explanation of the design) in the format of a research proposal.
Part 2
Comparison between two approaches: in this part use a short essay format
6. Length: Be as concise as you can be, whilst meeting the requirements of the task. It is recommended that Part 1 will be longest (about 2,000 -2500 words) and Part 2 will be much shorter (about 500 words). You may include one sample information letter and one sample consent form in an appendix, in addition to this word limit).
