Evaluation proposal about ( Pacific Community)

: Evaluation proposal ( Pacific Community)
Word limit: 2,000 words

This research assignment requires you to develop an evaluation proposal for a program.
The purpose of this assignment is to make you able to enter the field (relatively) confident that you are able to undertake at least small scale evaluations. This assignment is designed to give you those skills.
In week 8, we will meet with PHD , who is a Project Officer for the Department of Family and Community Services. PHD presents some current projects/programs. This assignment is to write an evaluation proposal for one of those (so don’t miss this week). The assignment will be explained in more detail following PHD visit.
There are two components to this assignment:
10%: A preliminary presentation/consultation with PHD and UNI staff:
In week 13, PHD will again visit us. This is your chance to engage and consult with PHD. You will be able to present up to 6 A4 pages with your preliminary outline/considerations.
30%: The proposal:
You should organise the proposal so that it includes the elements outlined in the table below.
Note: The sections shaded grey on Table 1 (summary, research timetable, budget, personnel, appendices) normally feature in research proposals and grant applications, but due to the word limit for this task they do not have to be included here (and will not count toward your task). References (which are compulsory) do not have to count toward your word limit. Also, please make sure that you make linkages between the different sections of this report where appropriate.
A marking rubric will be provided later in the course.
Table 1: Evaluation Proposal
Cover letter You should include a cover letter and address the evaluation proposal to PHD
Title The title should indicate the topic of the study in 1- 15 words
Summary 100 to 200 word summary of the entire project Background/ Significance This section should outline the program that you will be evaluating in the proposed research and indicate why evaluation is needed. For instance, are there controversies about the program or the social issue it responds to? Why is there a need for further information about this program? When outlining the program, you should present the program logic in diagrammatic form and explain how the key elements of the program relate to each other. When indicating why the evaluation is needed, you should discuss the program, the social issue that it responds to and what the evaluation will contribute to our knowledge. Literature Review A concise summary of the main references relevant to evaluating the selected program. Make sure that you review the findings of other studies and discuss their methodology. At the end of this review, draw out the important messages for the evaluation and the methodology in particular. It is imperative that multiple sources with a range of authors are consulted to allow for a diversity of views to be explored and identification of controversies about the program (or similar types of programs). Please do not take any sources at face value – be critical but reasonable. Aims and
Objectives
Make it clear who the evaluation is being commissioned by. Identify the study’s main objective and the key research questions that will guide the evaluation. After identifying the main objective, it might help to consider whether you need information on the effectiveness, appropriateness, and efficiency and so on of the program.
Approach Discuss the suggested approach and justify why you have chosen that approach. It is good practice to discuss (briefly) the merits of the main alternative approaches. Use references if appropriate. What methods will you use? What will be the outcome of using these methods? Which stakeholders will be involved? It is imperative that you explain the links between the evaluation question(s), the evaluation approach, the methods and how these will be operationalised in this particular case. Ethical and
Political Issues
Identify any specific issues arising from the research. Pay careful attention also to generic ethical issues in research with human subjects – Respect for Persons: Informed Consent; confidentiality; possible risks for subjects and any possible benefits. State whether Ethics
approval has, or will be sought, and if so, from whom. Also, consider the political dimensions of this report – are there controversies about the program or social issue? Are there any conflicts of interest (i.e. as internal or external evaluators)? And, consider the ethical issues that are likely to arise because this is evaluation research.
Research
Timetable
Set out the best information available on the time needed for the various stages of the research: preparation, data collection, analysis, write up, publication/dissemination.
Personnel
Where appropriate, identify the main people (including yourself as primary researcher) are likely to be involved and summarise the experience and expertise they would need to bring in order to produce high quality data.
Budget
This is required for many grant applications, consultancies, etc. It is often useful to complete in other cases as well.
References List any books, articles, reports, web sites etc. you have cited in the proposal.
Appendices
Attach any important documents (e.g. questionnaires, ethics approvals, CVs, budget, sampling framework) referred to in the body of the proposal.

Commodity Chain

write about one specific commodity- something that is available for purchase locally in Vancouver, BC Canada.
Select a spefic brand or make of product or even just one particular product made by a company.
You will try to trace the chain backwards from the final product to its origin included the raw materials and where it was produced and assembled. If possible how was it transported, who are the key players involved and what other factors may influence the trade of this product(govt policies, trade agreements, etc.)
It may not be possible to gather information about all aspects of the chain. However where
specific information is difficult to find, you may be able to find more general information. For
example, you may not find details about where Starbucks obtains their Ethiopian coffee beans or
who is growing them, but you could research coffee farming in general in Ethiopa,(where it is
gown, on what scale, farm ownership, working conditions etc ) and then suggest that this might
apply to Starbucks sources.
As an economic geographer, you should describe the three dimensions of the commodity
chain: its geographical structure, its type of governance, and the relevant institutional
frameworks. In describing the economic commodity chain, you should also include information
on the social, cultural, political and environmental aspects. Working conditions, allocation and
distribution of profits, environmental impacts, social relations, and cultural significance are all part of the chain.
Finally you may discuss issues related to ethical consumption, and whether or not this
particular commodity chain has been affected by attempts to impose any regulations or standards
(such as those related to fair trade)

Measurements (& Surveys)

Measurements (& Surveys).
Surveys
Identify surveys or other ways you would obtain the data needed for a research project such as this (hypothetical) HOMELESS VETERANS one. Be sure to cite, including at least two sources for your narrative. So . . . let’s say you find a survey similar to your idea. Cite that. Discuss how you could/would adapt it to what you need. Or how you couldn’t possibly do so (with good, strong justification).

Other measures
If you are doing something besides a survey (see above), explain why, and how – what is it you’re doing, and why. Cite. You can cite someone who’s doing something similar, or a source on “how to do research.” Or a source on your content, explaining how people in general do this kind of thing and what they typically find.

EPAS
Return to the syllabus and choose either one or two of the EPAS to answer this question. Identify which standard, and tie your answers to the first two parts of this assignment to them. Hint: the answer to this part of the assignment probably lives in your head already – don’t try to look it up

Qulititative Analysis

This assignment assesses your ability to complete and present qualitative analysis of data by
applying the acquired knowledge to a real data set. It will test your analytical skills in qualitative
(interpretivist) context and your ability to present complex findings in a clear and effective manner.
Use the documentary data and theory provided via Moodle (available from 23 October 2015). If you
want to use data for a topic of your own, you have to get explicit approval from the lecturer, at least
10 days before the deadline for this assignment, as the data need to meet certain requirements. You
will not get approval if you can’t show the exact complete data set you are intending to use.
The essay has to have the form of a brief research report, with sections
 Introduction. Very brief background based on the provided theory document. Define a
research topic, problem, purpose and question(s) that adequately guide the analysis you are
asked to do.
 Research design. As in any research report, (briefly) describe the design including data
(collection) and analysis (coding process).
 Results. Describe and present codes and derived themes (results). An important aspect of
this is the way you present data and results; make sure this is clear and effective. Use one or
more of the visual representation approaches discussed during workshops, choosing the
ones that are best suited to convey the essential elements. Any visual representation
should be supported (not described or repeated!) by the text.
 Discussion. This is where the results are interpreted. Use the provided theory document as
a theoretical lens to interpret themes in relation to conceptual ideas.
 Conclusions. This is where you answer the research question. Has to be brief and to the
point. May include recommendations.
 References. List according to Harvard system.
 Annex. You may use annexes to include e.g. colour coded data or other material that is too
detailed and bulky to include in the main report.
The References and Annexes are not included in the word count. Content in tables is not included in
word count.

Essay2

This assignment is about you choosing a topic from your previous small assignments that you are interested in and want to know more about. What you choose is up to you. The final assignment is about you using something from one the topics (Topics 1-5) and using it as a springboard for you to jump off from, taking it further and making it your own.
For those that have asked, you do not answer the topic question again in this assignment and you are certainly not to copy and paste work you submitted for the small assignments. That said, you may indicate in your introduction of your assignment for The final assignment that you selected a particular issue from one of the questions/topics discussed previously in the course for instance, social media and that you will discuss an aspect of this in your paper. For example, the advantages of social media for the delivery of nursing care in rural and remote settings. You are certainly able to draw upon the reference material that you used in the small assignments in of your assignment that deals with your chosen topic if you need to but you will need to show that you have read more broadly. Essentially, in this assignment you are to elaborate on a topic, show that have done further work and not have simply regurgitated what you did in the small assignments. I hope this helps clarify.

Please write about

Cumberland Plain Land Snails –

Questions
Some questions that arose from a recent discussion about the snails were:
o Bring the issue (endandgered and how?)
o Population and where they live and how many
o What is the snail features and characteristics and compare with garden snail
o The below questions of markings – compare with other species

1. How many populations are there?
2. What is a snail’s home range or how far does or can a snail travel anyhow?

3. How many snails are there on the various remnant patches of Cumberland Plain?

4. We wondered if we could mark them and do capture mark release recapture studies to estimate the size of the populations? During the course of this conversation another question arose.

5. What can we mark snails with?

6. Will it hurt them (kill them)?

7. Will they be more vulnerable to predators?

8. Has this been done before? Yes

9. Will the UV pigments and mediums use to mark the snails last long enough to be used in a study on snails?
A quick search of the published literature reveals that UV pigments / dyes do not appear to have been used to mark terrestrial snails. The two key (so far!) papers are:
Henrya, P and Jarne, P. 2007. Marking hard-shelled gastropods:tag loss, impact on life-history traits, and perspectives in biology. Invertebrate Biology 126(2): 138-153.
Severns, P. M. 2009. A conspicuous, water-resistant ink for marking terrestrial snails. Journal of Molluscan Studies, 75, 93-94..
10. What animals in what studies have been marked with UV / fluorescent pigments / dyes?

11. Can we use the common introduced snail Helix asperaas a surrogate to investigate:

– The possible effects on mortality of snails that have been UV marked?
– How long will the mark remain on the snail? For example, if we mark the snail this spring (2015) will the mark remain (be detectable) next spring (2016)?
Can you find any research paper(s) that report the use of UV pigments and or dyes as markers in any study on animals (particularly invertebrates)?
Of these papers do any highlight any issues that we may face when UV marking and working with snails?
Can you think of any concerns or issues we should consider in using Helix as a surrogate?
Students groups should discuss these questions and issues I have identified above.
This work will assist and help prepare you for completing the final report (Introduction ONLY )near the end of the semester. Do NOT leave it to then to get a start. At this stage you should be reading about the Cumberland snail and thinking about marking issues and using Helix as a surrogate.

Accountability – NSW Police

“With great power comes great responsibility” (Voltaire, 1832)

As a police office, you are required to do the right thing in order to meet both the public and NSWPF expectations. Discuss how you will ensure that your actions or inactions as a police officer meet these expectations ethically, professionally and accountably.
Your discussion must include reference to appropriate legislation and policies. You must refer to at least 3 academic articles to support your work. Your assignment must NOT be a summary of previous ethics subject material, the Statement of Values or Code of Conduct and Ethics. You may use short police related examples to support your work, but it must primarily be an academic discussion.
Rationale
In completing assessment item two, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
o discuss what it means to be accountable as a police officer;
o utilise the NSW Police Intranet to locate various police policies relating to ethical considerations;
o critique a number of ethical considerations that ought to inform their professional practice;
o apply specific items of legislation and/or police policy to ethical issues
o overcome problems and make decisions in a policing context whilst remaining accountable on individual and organisational levels.

theory

The Four Metaparadigms: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on the basic four metaparadigms/concepts of patient, nurse, health, and environment.

Two Practice-Specific Concepts: Identification, discussion, and documentation from the literature of your perspective on at least two other concepts specific to your own practice.

List of Propositions: A numbered list of at least five propositions or assumption statements that clearly connect the concepts described.

Consider the following questions as you complete your various tasks related to this assignment.

1.

How do I define and employ the four basic metaparadigms of nursing theory in my professional practice?

2.

What are the major concepts I employ that are unique to my professional practice?

3.

What philosophies and theories from the literature of nursing and other disciplines/domains are consistent with these concepts?

4.

How are the concepts of transcultural nursing, the health promotion model, skill acquisition, role theory, and change theory specifically integrated into my philosophy and practice?

5.

What research supports these theories and concepts?

6.

How do I integrate role and change theory into my professional practice and how may these theories be applied to the organization in which I practice?

The paper is to be thoroughly researched and well documented, with relevant material from the nursing theorists presented incorporated into the paper. Use the current edition of the APA Manual throughout the paper. Sources should focus on references from nursing theory but may also include conceptual and theoretical material from other professional domains. The paper, excluding references or appendices, is to be limited to 6-10 pages. Writing should be succinct and well organized, as it is impossible for the facilitator to evaluate form and content separately.
Your philosophy/framework is to be given a title that is appropriate to its content and emphasis.
