The term synergy is often used to describe a process whereby a group becomes more than the sum of its parts. Classrooms are places where synergy can thrive. However, creating truly collaborative assignments that foster interdependence and synergy can be a great challenge for educators. All too often, teachers use "group work" for tasks and assignments that many students could do just as easily on their own.
