Students will also be required to submit two short response papers (three pages long, double spaced, 12 font size) addressing readings assigned during one of the weeks.
The assignment must include a cover page.
The cover pages should have the following:
Your full name
Date
Full citation (ASA style)
About the author (discipline, department, specialization, contact information)
Research question(s) or thesis of the article, chapter.
Theory used in the article or chapter. What theory is the author building on?
Two or three quotes that you liked from the reading. No analysis needed.
In the three page response paper you are expected to do the following:
Briefly summarize/discuss the readings and describe your reactions/opinions toward the readings and topic. Papers should show evidence that you did all the readings (you should not just write about your own opinion based on your general knowledge of the topic or respond to only one or two specific things that the readings happen to mention). At the same time, good response papers should do more than merely summarize the readings.
During the first two weeks of class, please sign up online to write response papers for one class. It is your responsibility to sign up. Each response paper should be submitted through Safe Assignment on Blackboard before the class meets (for which you signed-up to write the response paper). Instructions on how to submit your assignment will be posted on Blackboard during week 2 under announcements.
Your response paper grade will be worth 15% of your grade, based on the total of the following four scores:
Cover Page (10 points)
Content: Is the student using and/or referencing material from the readings? (25 points).
Reaction: Is the student expressing a thoughtful response/opinion about the reading/topic? (20 points).
Organization and writing: Is the paper well-organized and written? (5 points).
Once response papers are graded, the grades will be posted on Grade Center (“My Grades”) on Blackboard.
