Hybrid Content: Narratology/Ludology

Hybrid Content: Narratology/Ludology
We won’t have time to discuss the concepts of Narratology and Ludology in video games this week, so this will truly be hybridized content. Research these terms and the way they have been applied to video games (both academically and in the popular press). After doing enough research that you feel you have an understanding of the terms, present an argument about the split between gameplay and narratives in modern video games. Then, compare current games with ones from the past, and discuss what you can learn about the changing relationship between narratology and ludology through this comparison. Use specific examples from either your gaming experience or from the research you did on narratology/ludology. Link to your research and to these examples. Initial post of around 300 words

Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD).

ADD research paper
Describe the research gap you identified and share the research question you came up with in your topic Proposal and Literature Review Worksheet document in Module Two. Along with the initial three references you chose in Milestone One, add an additional four references to this milestone, listing them in APA format. Give a brief description of what they show, how they tie into your chosen topic, and how they help demonstrate the gap. Share the basics of your proposed study to address the gap, including any ethical considerations.

The research focuses on the Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD). ADD is a condition that causes a lack of sleepiness by making the patients stay awake always. It may be caused by various factors that include lifestyle, environment, or chemical imbalances. It develops into hyperactivity and impulsivity over time. These difficulties in awakening and maintaining alertness, however, can be treated by practicing good hygiene or using medication.

Then, select your first three references to support your chosen topic, keeping in mind that you will ultimately need seven references for your final paper. Answer the questions below for each of your first three references. The references should be listed in the American Psychological Association (APA) format
What are the key aspects of cognition covered in this reference/study?
What evidence does the reference/study present for how cognitive processes influence the area of human behavior covered in research?
If your reference covers a study, what research design was used for the study, and why do you think the researchers chose it?
How did the researchers address potential ethical issues in the study, and did they do it adequately? Why or why not?
Cite your reference in APA style:
What are the key aspects of cognition covered in this reference/study?
What evidence does the reference/study present for how cognitive processes influence the area of human behavior covered in research?
If your reference covers a study, what research design was used for the study, and why do you think the researchers chose it?
How did the researchers address potential ethical issues in the study, and did they do it adequately? Why or why not?
Considering all three references, address the questions below:
How have views on this topic changed over time?
What conclusions can be reached, based on these studies and references?
What gaps exist in these studies that could be addressed in future research?
Based on your topic selection and initial resources, what is your research question?

Communication Strategies

Literature review

Subject: Communication Strategies

This section of the research paper is the Gathering Data section. In this section of the report, discuss how the data was gathered. Please consider discussing the following ways that information was gathered.

What questioning techniques were used? Grand Tour questions used? Mini-Tour questions used? Prompt questions? Guided Tour Questions? Task-related questions?

How was trust established in the interview process? What about participant observation methods that were used?

How was the data recorded? Field notes, transcripts, audio/video?

Were focus groups used? Were focus questions used? Were any surveys used? Any other methods?

This is my research question :

”How is children’s psychosocial development affected by authoritarian parenting, family structure and family discord?”

Information Technology;Research Paper Assignment.

You are required to submit a research paper. The paper must focus on one of the following topics:

A comparison of Windows versus Linux based operating systems.
Modern approaches to process synchronization.
Limitations of mobile operating systems and how they may be overcome.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

All 20 sources must be professional, no ‘internet’ sources. Scholarly journal articles and books only.

The paper consists of the following 5 sections (plus Reference Page):

1. Introduction including a clear thesis statement.
2. An etiology section addressing questions such as What is the history of this disorder and classification?
• When was the disorder first discovered?
• What population is most likely to be diagnosed with this specific disorder?
• What population has been diagnosed most often within this classification of
disorders?
• What additional information that relates to this etiology have you discovered?
3. Assessment / Diagnosis Section
Assessment: The assessment process involves several different pieces of information
and is only the beginning of the process of identifying the disorder.
• What methods of assessment are used to identify this disorder?
• What psychological, neurological, and/or medical tests are used? Why?
• Describe the clinical interview used for assessment and the counseling theory
that it comes from
Diagnosis: Match the symptoms identified through the above assessment to the
symptoms of a specific disorder to define the diagnosis.
• What symptoms are specific to the disorder you are studying?
• What are the psychological symptoms?
• What are the physical symptoms?
• What are the duration and intensity requirements?
• Which symptoms are particular to this disorder as compared to other disorders
within the classification? In other words, how would you know that you have
made the correct diagnosis?
4. Treatment Section
Treatment: this section is concerned with the process of identifying and discussing
empirically validated treatment methods (methods based on research).
What empirically validated treatment methods, otherwise known as best practice, treat
this disorder?
Explain how these treatment methods were normed:
• What studies were done?
• What population was studied?
• What was the result?
• Was it a short-term study (6 months or less) or a long-term study (more than 6
months)?
• What specific recommendations did the researchers who studied these
treatment methods make?
• What questions were outlined for further research?
• What is involved with each type of treatment?
• How long in general does each type of treatment require?
• Why are these treatment methods effective for this disorder?
• Would these treatment methods be effective for the population you want to
work with? Why? or Why not?
Note other interesting findings.
5. Conclusion: Conclude your literature review in a way that provides:
• A clear understanding of the significance of your work.
• A brief review of important points.
• Your personal reaction to your literature review.
• What have you, the researcher, learned from this process?
• How has it changed the way you view the topic?
• What do you agree and/or disagree with?
• What further research is needed?

Pleneurethics

Pleneurethics is the philosophy developed by Richard Bangs Collier, based on work he did from the 1960s through to the 1980s. Mr. Collier coined the term ‘pleneurethics’ from the composite of three words:

Plenary, or completely competent and with total authority

Neural, relating to the nervous system and the brain

Ethics, having to do with responsible behavior and constructive conduct

The goal of Pleneurethics is to improve the quality of lives through better management of neurological resources so as to create and sustain neurological sufficiency. Pleneurethics espouses a balanced view of the whole person through an understanding of the physical, chemical, mental, and cultural environments of the brain. The way the brain is affected by these environments and responds to them determines one’s health, character, and ability to make responsible choices.

RESEARCH PAPER:

This paper is a Research-based paper; therefore it is expected that you will write a formal paper for this assignment, using appropriate academic writing. Please also consider applying theoretical analysis that will help you to evaluate your topic (for instance, you might want to analyze the causes of anorexia through a cognitive-behavioural lens, and/or a Feminist lens). A good paper will have strong overall academic writing and will cover the basics as far as a description of the topic, the research you’ve found about the topic, and your critiques of the research, including questions you might still have about the topic that after researching it.

Possible Structure Example (you don’t necessarily have to follow this, but it gives you an idea):

● Introduction to your topic: introduction, definitions, etc. 1 page

● Overview of your topic: description of the topic you’ve picked, highlighting the key ideas and concepts. 2-3 pages

● Research findings: What have you found in research regarding the topic? 3 pages

● Critique: What does the research miss? What are some problems with the arguments about your topic? And, what might be some ways or ideas to further research that might speak to these limitations? 3-4 pages

This essay is 10 pages in length excluding the bibliography. Students can choose any topic they would like related to Eating Disorders except for topics that are specifically focused on medical issues.

Suggestions for topics include:

1. Eating disorders and diversity.

2. Eating disorders and families.

3. Eating disorders and sexual abuse.

4. Eating disorders and athletes.

5. Describe different treatment models e.g. cognitive behavioural treatment of bulimia, family therapy, intensive programs.

6. How do eating disorders affect a woman’s ability to parent?

7. The ethical issues associated with compulsory treatment.

8. Prevention of eating disorders or weight related issues.

Marking will be similar to the Test, with fewer leniencies given to incomplete /brief explanations and grammar errors: in other words, since you have more time to write the paper compared to the test, I will expect more elaboration and fewer grammar errors in your research paper.

 Explanation of Marking:

· Clarity of Rationale of Ideas: Does the student’s ideas make sense? Are the ideas logical? Are the explanations they use clearly demonstrating what their ideas are and how their ideas work?

· Depth of Insights: Does the student show that they have thought through their ideas, looking at them from various angles? Has the student noted exceptions or weaknesses to their ideas? Has the student noted intricacies in their ideas?

· Grammar: Is correct punctuation used? Is the sentence structure appropriate?

· Application of Course Concepts: Is the student using concepts discussed in class in their answer?

Writing Guidelines: Your papers should be double-spaced, written in 12 point size with margins of 1 inch and double-spaced. Use a minimum of 8 academic references (journal articles, text book chapters). You may use other resources if you like, but only above and beyond the 8 scholarly references.
